Reposting this from another thread on male factor infertility (MFI).

I’m sorry to see that you’re also dealing with infertility and potential male factor issues. We tried for a year before starting all our testing. In the end, we discovered that I have DOR (diminished ovarian reserve) and DH has MFI… His SA’s were terrible and we also discovered that he has sperm antibodies, so DH started seeing a urologist who specializes in infertility issues. DH also had the varicocele repair surgery. It went well, however, we were also told that we would not know the extent of the results until at least 90-180 days after it, because that is how long it takes for new sperm to be produced and mature. DH’s testosterone was also low, so the urologist put him on clomid. After the surgery and clomid, his SA results increased a bit, but not to put him within the normal range. We tried 3 IUIs, two of which we combined cryo and fresh samples, however, they were still low on the day of the IUI and ultimately did not work. We were told that our only chance was IVF with ICSI, so after 2+ years of trying we decided it was time to move on. We were extremely lucky that our first IVF worked and I am now 22 weeks along.

I’m sorry I don’t have better news for you that the surgery does miracles, but at least you can know that there is hope if the less invasive methods don’t work. Hang in there! Also, don’t forget to think of your DH’s feelings too, he may not show it, but they typically take the MFI news pretty hard. Before I knew that we also have to overcome my DOR issues, I made it a point to let DH know that this was a joint problem, not his problem alone and certainly not his fault. I hope the surgery works for your DH and you don’t need other interventions! Have you completed all the testing for you to rule evething out?

notintoplanning: It had nothing to do with TTC. His doctor found a lump during a routine exam and had him get an ultrasound. He told him to contact him after 6 months of TTC without results. The worst part of all this is it could be an issue but we don’t know. I would love to have testing and know right away but doctors don’t work that way, unfortunately.

It’s weird, DH is a natural worrier but this.. this doesn’t bother him. He’s either hiding it or he won’t freak until it’s confirmed that it is causing infertility.
