Hi Bees,
I need some advice! My fiance and I were originally planning a semi-big wedding for this April, but we’ve hit a financial bump in the road, and the wedding we were planning is no longer an option. So we’re thinking of going to Vegas and just having our families there and some close friends. It would still be a very pretty ceremony (thinking about chapel at Mandalay Bay), and I think we would have a blast! Our other option would be to still have the big wedding, but we would have to wait until December of 2011. A part of me is so excited and feeling so impatient that I don’t think I can wait until December of next year! It feels so far away! But then another part of me still wants the big wedding. Can anyone help me come up with some pros and cons? What would you do in my position?
Thanks for your time 🙂

We are getting married in the Bahamas with 6-8 guests and then having a reception when we get back.
What if you got married now in vegas and then waited till december 2011 to have the reception kinda a combo you could even renew your vows if you wanted too

I totally vote for Vegas!
Pros:
- Cheaper
- Get to go to Vegas
- Small and intimate wedding
- Get to go to Vegas
- Less formal
- Tons of choices of venue/theme (I mean, c’mon. Elvis, Star Trek, you name it!)
- All-Inclusive packages
- Vegas has tons of spas, casinos, resorts, so no additional travel for honeymoon
- Get to go to Vegas
Cons:
- Wedding guests will be few in number
- People who cannot travel will not be able to attend
- It’s not always cheaper
- Dealing with the stigma of the “Cheap, tacky vegas wedding”

I vote Vegas and agree you could have a bigger vow renewal later when you have the money.

I also think you should go to Vegas just invite your and FIs closest friends and most important family members. You can always have the real thing at a later date. The most important thing is marrying the man you want to spend the rest of your life with.

I’d do the Vegas option in a heartbeat!
Pros:
Cheaper, you don’t have to wait, cheaper 😉
Cons:
Some might not be able to travel

Thanks everyone!!! This really helps a bunch! I personally am leaning towards Vegas as well, but I feel differently about it nearly every day, and having outside opinions really helps! 🙂

lol well I’m of the opposite opinion. I know sometimes I am so tempted to just go to vegas to get married also, but you’re going to remember this for the rest of your life. I see it as Dec 2011 isn’t that far away, and then you’ll get the wedding that you originally wanted and planned for. You can always go to vegas another time, but having a nice wedding with all your family and friends, that would be hard to do later.

Vegas :). Not only is it easier on your pocket, but it is much more intimate. With whatever you choose, I wish you all the best! >.<

@europomme: I can totally understand what you are saying, and that’s why I’m having this dilemma. A part of me is worried that when Vegas is all said and done, and December rolls around, I’ll WISH that I was getting ready for my big wedding, and wishing I had just had the patience for it. I’m so torn!

Can you do a very small Vegas wedding in December this year and then have a one year anniversary vow renewal? (just so they’re spaced apart a bit more)

I looked into Vegas and I didn’t think it was that much “cheaper” then doing something at home. The package we were looking at was $3500 for the ceremony on a Saturday at the Venetian and they require you use their provided photographer and their photos didn’t impress me at all. Plus the chapel didn’t come with any decoration and honestly when I saw it in person, it really needed florals which can only be provided from the hotel and are expensive. Then you have to figure out dinner and drinks….really it just depends on what you want and how many people you plan on having.
