Some of you might know that the SO and I are accompanying another couple on trip to Las Vegas – which the other couple won so the accomodation and flights have been paid for. It will be the A and C’s honeymoon and the SO is planning on proposing during the trip since frankly, going to Las Vegas is an incredible treat for us – and something that we would have had to really for in order to afford going. He makes to make it as memorable as possible. Flights and accomodation have been organized – and we are all deliriously excited. That’s the good news
The bad news is that whilst A (the groom), the SO and I just need to fill out an ESTA under the Visa Waiver Programme since we’re all NZ citizens, we were told that C (the bride) has to actually apply for a Visa. Not because she’s not a citizen, but because she has a drug charge in her record. And there is apparently a good chance that she will get denied a visa and thus cannot enter the US.
We don’t know her chances – we’re hoping that the fact that it is the only criminal charge that she has, that it is over three years old and that it was over a Class C drug that they may be lenient. And A said that they could appeal an initial denial by getting the local MP to write a letter on their behalf. But we’re facing a real possibility that the trip might not go ahead. Which really sucks! Admittedly more for them than for us since it’s suppose to be their honeymoon. Argh! Now we have to play the waiting game and hope like mad that she does get a visa.
Sorry for the rant but I really needed to vent.
