Oh man, that all sounds good! I don’t have any suggestions, really, but I’m subscribing to this topic because we’re also doing vegetarian only. All I know so far is Fiance really wants a potato bar, haha.

I am vegetarian! Happy to weigh in.

All of your food choices look awesome. I would go for: falafel, cheese, stuffed mushrooms, baked ziti OR lasagna, and veg pasta primavera.

Make sure you have enough protein (via cheese, etc). That’s why I would shy away from things like sateed veggies with potatoes. Are there any options for beans/legumes in the mixture?

I also find that carnivores say they need to feel “full” when they eat vegetarian food- so heavier items like stuffed mushrooms and ziti/lasagna would be welcomed.

I really love this!

I really like pulses: lentils, beans, etc.  Perhaps you could add some so it’s not just pasta and potato?

I’m not vegetarian/vegan but one of my favourite veggie restaurants is David Bann, I’m wondering if their menu could give you some ideas.

Just some thoughts πŸ™‚

@indiblue:  SO says he never feels full after a vegetarian meal (his ex was a veggie), I don’t get it!

I want to second that I *love* falafel.

I’m a vegetarian!! I love falafel but a lot of people don’t, so I’m not sure I would choose that one. I think you should do cheese/crackers (who doesn’t like that?), veggie plate & stuffed mushrooms with baked ziti & pasta primavera. What would you love to eat at your wedding though?

All the entrees sound really yummy. I personally would want the rice and veggie masala, so I’d choose that as one entree. For the other, the pasta primavera, perhaps?

While I’d think both the first two entrees would be yummy, I suspect from the non-veggie camp you might find people saying it’s not enough food – I personally would prepare potatoes and veggies as sides to a main protein (either an animal protein or tofu/lentils/beans) for a meal. While it’s silly that some non-vegetarians will complain about the food, if you want to show them how delicious and satisfying veggie meals can be, it might be an idea to give them something delicious and filling like a pasta, so they’re not looking at their plates and feeling like something is missing.

As a lifetime picky vegetarian, these would be my choices:

appetizers:

falafel

hummus with pita bread

cheese

crackers

vegetable plate

stuffed mushrooms

Dinner ideas:

 rice and veggie masala

(only one pasta dish- just pick one!)

vegetarian pasta primavera

lasanga

baked ziti

Those meals are all really carby, and that’s generally the complaint about vegetarian meals from the omnivore camp. They actually do sound tasty, but I would swap one or two out for something less carb centric…maybe a hearty vegetable stew, marinated & grilled mushrooms with a yummy vegetable side, a meal involving quinoa instead of pasta, etc.

FWIW, I eat a relatively protein heavy diet, and I don’t have an issue with “filling up” from a vegetarian meal. I do, however, have an issue with staying full if the meal doens’t have enough fat/protein & is carb heavy.

I would pick the lasagna as entree. Will it be white sauce or red sauce?

for apps, maybe stuffed mushrooms or asparagus (gosh I love asparagus!)

Love the idea of cheese and cracker selection too

This menu sounds delicious! I love all the veggie options. Even as am omnivore I am always looking for more types of delicious veggies. I dislike going to events that feature all meat and carbs.

My only problem with your menu is the carb content… especially if you want to serve “white” carbs like non-wholegrain pasta and potatoes. I try to avoid these, both for weight reasons and because they can make me feel bloated and a bit sick. Once you remove the pita bread, crackers, bread basket, rosemary potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice, pasta and (possibly) lasagne from the equation, there isn’t so much left (although I would definitely eat lots of stuffed peppers, stuffed mushrooms, veggie plate things, salad, and asparagus… yum yum!).

I agree with the others… you need more protein of some sort… that’s what I would miss! Vine leaves and aubergines, maybe? Some sort of veggie stew, like the others suggested? A light veggie soup to start, with lots of warming herbs, and some mushrooms and tofu (even an egg or two, if you don’t mind it)? Lots of options!
