yes, I try and make sure I say “NEXT april” for mine, or I’ll say April 21st. of NEXT year. Always trying to emphasize.    I have gotten a lot of people telling me I am planning early. I just want to be like “Are you nuts???”

Honestly, as a vendor, we’re so wrapped up in ‘this’ season it happens.  I’m super duper overly organized and I’ve done it, too.  I think sometimes the ‘next’ thing confuses people, too – some think the coming weekend is next, others the weekend after that – and it’s the same with months.

Year long or more engagements definitely seem to happen less than they did even a few years ago.  I used to get SO pumped when a bride booked that was within 9 months or less!  That was a short term booking for me – now that’s more like 3 months.

Good luck getting them to understand 2012 🙂

If you guys are all early then I’m way ahead of my time! I’m a Sept 2012 bride and I’ve booked chuch, venue and photographer. Honestly though, of all the vendors I’ve contacted none have hinted that I’m too early. In fact, a few we’re already booked!

you know, this is funny because the photographer i wanted is already BOOKED for next may.  so trust me, you are not crazy for getting your ducks in a row early!

I dont think you are early at all! I had to book my venue nearly 2 years in advance (and was lucky to get it, as I was simply just inquring about openings when I found out how pre-booked they were!)

I am getting married Oct. 2012 and have my photographer, DJ, church, and venue. Things book quickly! I look at it as its best to have the first pick then be scrambling later!

I don’t think that it is too early.  I’ve learned that when planning a wedding in Vancouver, a lot of the venues book up over a year in advance and the same with other things.  Vendors have not told me that I have been doing things too early.  In fact they encouraged it because I can book in at the 2011 prices.  We booked our venue 19 months in advance and were told that it was a good idea because they would be booked up by march 2011 for 2012.

Our wedding is in July and we have all the big things booked – the venue, dj, photographer and decorator.

@thewheelsonthebus:  I really started using “NEXT” once it was already April, so I didnt confuse them more!  =)  Before that I did just have to really make sure they knew it was 2012 by saying it.. more than once.  lol

@toshella:  I dislike snotty people like that!  I loved reaching out to vendors when it was time for MY wedding – I realized how some people who have been decent to work with talk to their clients and immediately stopped suggesting them to others.  No one likes people who act all butthead-y 🙂
