- Wedding: December 1969
Ok, it’s been about 2 months since we took the plunge. Here’s how it went down.
Ceremony/reception venue/caterer: Cescaphe Ballroom. A+. In a word, fabulous. The guests couldn’t stop talking about how amazing the food and ambiance was. We had the ceremony in the ballroom. There were no tables in sight, which was a criteria for me. The entire place was flipped during the 1.5 hour cocktail hour. The food was superb. They pride themselves on being “the best food in Philly” and they deliver. Lobster tail, crab legs and claws, oysters, 40+ different apps and top-shelf open bar for NO upcharges. The general cost is higher than other places, but it includes everything. Including chargers, chiavari chairs, choice of upscale linens, etc. Cocktail hour was rediculous. We were treated like royalty. The entrees we chose were filet, sea bass and veal with lobster. Again, no upcharges. Then there was “dessert hour.” Bananas foster, cherries jubilee, lava cake, and of course the chocolate fountain. The only thing that was unclear to me going into it was that we could only choose the cake flavor for the top layer of cake, the rest would be vanilla/chocolate pound or chocolate chip pound. The cake was really good though. Everything was taken care of.
Photographer: Entwined Studio, NYC. (Matt and Angie Grant) A+. They were so sweet and amazing. Great artistic/photojournalistic eyes and incredibly accomodating. Our engagement shoot was featured on rocknrollbride.com and as a gallery of the day on weddingbee! Our pics were both modern and vintage, artistic and beautiful. They are incredibly easy to work with and accomodating to whatever crazy idea I threw at them. Superb. (Chosen by my wedding planner to do her wedding!)
Videographer: Illumimoto Cinema, Harrisburg PA. A+. We were lucky to get in on the “ground floor” as their prices are likely to go up. These guys are actual filmmakers, i.e. producers/directors/camera crew for MTV videos, movies, and shows currently on the air. Illumimoto is their “side project.” Check out my wedding video on their website. It speaks for itself. My wedding planner also chose them to film her wedding. They are StillMotion on the East Coast.
Wedding planner: Isis Petrie of Posh Events, LLC. A+. I had the “partial planning” package, so Isis went with me to vendor meetings and suggested my band, florist and lighting people. I would have been ripping my hair out if it weren’t for her. I’d email her and she would reply back usually within minutes. She kept everything running and organized. While she was putting out fires I didn’t know were occurring, her assistants were re-steaming and sewing my dress. I could breathe easy knowing I didn’t have to take care of anything – Isis was on the case. She is certainly worth more than she charges!
Band: Central Park the Band. A++. SO great. Everyone is still talking about how phenomenal they were. They pulled off Britney, Al Green, and Earth, Wind and Fire without skipping a beat. Everyone was dancing the entire time. I’m sad I had other responsibilities, I wanted to be on the dance floor with everyone else! They have an amazing horn section and are quite versatile. They learned special songs for us and everything was professional and seamless. I have had several people tell me they were the best wedding band they have ever heard. I agree.
Florist: Leigh Florist, Audubon, NJ: B. Denise was great to work with. She understood my vision and direction. But on the day of, I thought my centerpieces would be fruit-filled glass vases topped with a floral arrangement. Instead, they were glass vases filled with fruit or flowers. No arrangements on top. They looked great, just not what I had anticipated.
Dress: Kleinfeld, NYC: C. When trying on dresses, my consultant seemed confused and brought me tons of dresses I didn’t like. She did bring me the dress I had been crushing on which I ended up buying. We paid a ton of money for alterations, and they still charged $15 extra to have cups put in, and the bustle wasn’t done on the second alterations appointment. I wish I would have gone to Mark Ingram Atelier. They are a much smaller shop and the consultant had better insight as to what I wanted.
Hair/makeup: Ali Blette, Lakshmi Studio, Philadelphia. A++. Ali only colors hair, but her BFF and counterpart at Lakshmi, Rene, cuts. The dynamic duo prepped me for my wedding day with gorgeous hair. Ali did hair/makeup for me and my party on the day of. I was incredibly happy with the results. I looked and felt like a movie star. And her prices were very reasonable!
Hotel: Hyatt Penns Landing: B. No shuttle to the venue. Parking was expensive. The morning after brunch was great. Room blocking was fairly simple and Stephanie was accomodating in upgrading our suite for several days after our event.
