I found this board and one other to be incredibly helpful while planning my wedding, so wanted to give a little back. Here are my vendor reviews from my August 30th wedding at Fort Tryon Park. If you have any questions, please contact me and I would be happy to help you out!
Dress: Mark Ingram Bridal (Elizabeth Fillmore dress). Like many of you on this board, I feel like I went everywhere and looked high and low for a dress. I ended up at the sample sale at Mark Ingram, and got my nearly new dress there. The sample sale was very calm and civilized, and the people who I interacted with were extremely helpful and lovely (and negotiated with me on the dress price).
Dress Cleaner: J. Scheer. Mark Ingram has some sort of relationship with J Scheer, and so my dress after it was purchased was sent directly there. They are expensive, but did a great job, and sent me periodic dress cleaning updates. I need my dress cleaned post-wedding, and am thinking about using them again (though they are very, very pricey).
Alterations: Madame Paulette. I paid a fortune for the dress to be altered, but it was a sample size 8, and I am a 00, so I knew that a new dress had to practically be cut from the old one, and I wanted to go to someone for the alterations who knew what they were doing. They don’t limit the number of dress fittings, which is great because I went in for at least 5, and the bridal manager is lovely. You are assigned someone to alter your dress from the very beginning, and although my alterationist did a good job, I felt her to be a little ‘casual’ (for lack of a better word). She never used a measuring tape (which resulted in them taking the dress in way too much and then it having to be let out again), the dress was still not done a week before the wedding, but was delivered directly to our hotel a couple of days before the wedding and was perfect.
Hotel for Family/Friends: Smyth Tribeca. Loved it!!!! I negotiated an amazing rate for my family and friends from out of town, and my husband and I stayed there as well. The hotel is in a fabulous location, is absolutely beautiful, and the Concierge William is amazing. He made dinner, limo, and hair and make up reservations, received my dress, bouquet, etc, etc. Can’t say enough about them. And my family tends to change things around alot. The hotel went with the flow throughout the numerous room night and restaurant reservations adjustments and changes.
Ceremony site: Fort Tryon Park. The weather cooperated, and after two days of rain the park could not have been more gorgeous. All we needed was a park permit, and it was easy as anything to get. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Reception: New Leaf Cafe, Fort Tryon Park. I can’t say enough. It was magical, perfect, amazing. Everyone raved about the food (which was really, really important to us), The service was impaccable, Tiffany – their event manager, was calm, cool, and collected, and the evening flowed perfectly. (we had a very small wedding, less than 40 people), We have our cocktail hour in the bar area (which we were running late for because of a snafu with the limos), and the new leaf extended our cocktail hour (which they didn’t have to because we were in public space at that point), and then we moved into the main dining area for the dinner. Again, would not change anything about this choice. Another big plus – they were very reasonably priced compared to many places we looked at, and now we have somewhere to go for our anniversary!
Cake: Silk Cakes/Judy Lai. Her cakes are simple and gorgeous. She is so kind and lovely to work with, and she is very well priced compared to some other people in the city. The cake was exactly as I imagined it, and was scrumptious too! I just found out that one of the manager’s at the new leaf loved our cake so much, that he placed an order with Judy for a cake for his wedding as well!
Flowers: Blade Floral Design. This was one area I found tedious, when choosing a vendor. I am not a flower person, and didn’t not want to spend a lot of money on flowers. Ann did a great job, the flowers were gorgeous. A couple fo things, one of our arrangements for the bathroom went missing – we were told it was delivered, but somehow got lost.
Day of Planner: The Boutique Group/Blair Grant. A+++++++++++++. I am still loving Blair 3 weeks after the fact. I found when trying to find a day of planner, that many places wouldn’t call me back, Blair from the get go, was always responsive, polite, and completely on the ball. (And very reasonably priced too). She did a walk through with us, came to our apartment from NJ to pick up stuff for the wedding, and after the wedding, drove to our Rabbi’s house to get the marriage license, and then back into the city to drop it off at the Smyth Tribeca because we wanted to get it to city hall ourselves. And I haven’t even gotten to the actual day yet! Wedding day – I didn’t worry about a thing! She was amazing, calm, everything was beautfully set up, and honestly, I don’t know what I would have done without her.
Hair/Makeup: Fresh Face Forward. I went to a few makeup/hair trials, and always felt that I wasn’t being listened to, and was not happy with the final results. Stacey and Sabrina on the other hand, are attentive, kind, and so easy to work with. Everyone looked absolutely gorgeous!
Limos: Were arranged through the hotel, and were the single issue we had. We were supposed to have space for 20, but the limos were too small, they were supposed to have 2 car seats, but they were in another limo that was late, and in short, it was a mess. It delayed the ceremony and start of the reception. If you want to know who the limo company was, contact me, and I will find out for you.
I know I am gushing, but we were really very lucky with all of our vendors, and in hindsight, the entire day was so wonderful.
I think that I covered everything. Please let me know if you have questions, good luck with the wedding planning!!
