Just wanted to post a few reviews of my favorite weddings from our wedding in Breckenridge in April. Ratings are from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. I also included how much we paid for each vendor.
Candy Apple Photography – 10
$3200 for all-day coverage, engagement session, proof box, CD, parents album
Jen & Rich are fantastic! The photos are amazing, especially the bridal shots that were taken outdoors. They create such artistic shots, and they’re fun to work with. I did not even know they were there during the ceremony. They got some fantastic candid shots that really captured the moment – my hubby’s face when he first saw me, Grandma’s tears at the reading, me & my mom looking like we actually like each other. I highly recommend them! I have so many photos to choose from!
Silverthorne Pavilion – 10
$1300 rental fee for 4 hours, plus 1 hr rehearsal
We had the ceremony only at the pavilion. Because our wedding was in April, we wanted an indoor space that would be great for family pictures. We loved the rustic look of the hardwoods and iron railings. And the lighting during the day is great. Plus, there are great photo opportunities on the bridge overlooking the river. This was the only space we could find close to Breckenridge for an indoor wedding. The staff at the pavilion were so easy to work with. Blair, my main contact person, always got back to me very promptly. We would have loved to have had the reception here, as well, but the closest nice hotels were in Breckenridge, and we didn’t want people driving after drinking.
Nancy Brace, harp & violin – 10
$400 – her prices have since gone up.
I found Nancy through a recommendation. She is great! The music was wonderful. They were able to play all the songs I requested. I had never heard a harp before play wedding music and I loved the sound of it!
RC Special Events, Gunbarrel — 10
We rented 40 chairs and five 5’ rounds from this rental company in Gunbarrel. I ordered everything over the phone 2 weeks before the event. Pick up went great, with no problems. Same with drop-off. Plus, since we were renting in the off-season, we got to keep everything for the entire weekend but was charged just a 1-day rate. They were the easiest vendor to work with throughout the entire wedding.
Bridal Connection, Longmont – 10
I only had 2 bridesmaids, and we picked an Alfred Angelo dress. I didn’t plan early enough on ordering our dresses (ordered 3 months out, and that wasn’t enough time), so I ended up having to pay a rush fee. They were great! They had my bridesmaid try on different Alfred Angelo dresses in order to order the perfect size for her. Dress came in time and was perfect!
Fresh Tracks Transportation, Breckenridge — 10
We provided a shuttle between the ceremony & reception. This cost a lot more than I had originally anticipated while I was planning the wedding. There really aren’t a whole lot of options in Breck, so make sure you budget enough for this! Fresh Tracks were easy to work with. They showed up on time and were professional. I haven’t heard any comments positive or negative from the guests.
Stage Coach Luxury Limousine– 10
Raoul was great! He was easy to reach and work with. The limo was clean and comfy. In between the ceremony and reception, Raoul even went back to his shop to pick up some lawn chairs so that we could change our shoes if we needed to. (We were going to hike to Sapphire Point and weren’t sure of the snow — we all brought boots to change into.)
Van/Go Florist – 8
$1200 for everything — 2 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 2 groomsmen, 2 ring bearers, ceremony flowers, reception flowers, boutenneires & corsages
Overall, I liked my flowers, and I loved the price. I felt like I really got my money’s worth by using a florist that’s only been in business for a year. Beth quoted me the best prices – even better than the florists in Breckenridge. I met with Beth a couple of times and showed her photos of what I liked for my bouquet, as well as for the ceremony décor. She really helped flesh out my vision for the ceremony. We talked about specific flowers, and then she did the rest on her own. The end result was great! My absolute favorite was the bamboo “plates” she created for the ringbearers. They were just amazing! There a couple of things that weren’t quite what I envisioned or what we talked about – willow baskets, boutenniere missing bamboo, rehearsal dinner pieces not as wide as we’d like – but overall, since flowers weren’t that important to me, I didn’t care. Beth was also really great about breaking down the ceremony flowers to then set up again at the reception site.
I would highly recommend her to anyone who’s looking for value and to anyone who is just so-so on flowers. If you have a specific idea in mind for your flowers and you want to make sure it gets done exactly as you envision, I would either hammer that point with Beth or just use someone else. Beth has great creativity and style, but isn’t so good on the details. But, because she’s a smaller venue, she didn’t charge me an arm & a leg for the 1 gardenia I wanted for Grandma, and she threw in extra origami paper & coloring pencils for the rehearsal dinner. Again, use her if you’re looking for value.
Amy’s Unique Cakes — 8
Amy’s cakes taste amazing! We had three tiers – chocolate with white chocolate cream, lemon with raspberry filling, and spice cake with Bavarian cream. Everyone loved how the cake tasted. We had Amy design our cake, and the sugar bamboo & aspen leaves didn’t turn out exactly how we wanted. We met with her a couple of times and she made a computer mock-up of these, but the actual product wasn’t quite what we envisioned. If we were to do it over again, we would have asked her to mock up those two things in sugar before the wedding. But all in all, the cake tasted great! Amy isn’t the most organized, but she always got back to me.
Hot Track DJ – 8
Carlo Escalante is the DJ, and we found him through a friend. He did a great job! He is really laid-back. He gave us his playlist ahead of time and asked us to highlight 30 or so songs that reflected our tastes. On the day of the wedding, he actually more or less played those songs. He was great about getting extra songs, too, that were important to us that he didn’t have on his playlist. The only glitch was that he played a different version of our first dance song than we had practiced to. It wasn’t a big deal, as we made it work, but it would have been nice to have gotten that right. Overall, I’d recommend him to anyone. The music he played was great, and he was really responsive to the audience. He also had guests double-check with me for questionable songs, i.e. “Baby Got Back” before he played them.
Ciao Bella, Longmont – 7
$200 for bridal hair & makeup
$50 for styles/$50 makeup for everyone else
They sent 2 stylists to Breckenridge to do our hair and makeup. I did a couple of trial hair runs with Alyria beforehand ($50/each). My straight, Asian hair stayed curled all night long! She kept my half-up do with a few bobby pins, and it didn’t hurt! I loved the look, and Alyria was really patient with me as I tried to decide on a style. Alyria also did my makeup. I didn’t do a trial run beforehand. I never wear makeup, so I was nervous. But everyone said I looked great. (I thought it was a bit heavy because I never wear makeup, but everyone assured me it wasn’t.) In fact, the photographer even said that she did a great job on my makeup. In the end, there were 7 hairdos & 3 makeup. Everyone was happy with their hair & makeup. We were originally supposed to have 2 more hairdos for my nieces, but there wasn’t enough time. It worked out; my bridesmaids worked on my nieces. But they get a lower mark for starting late and not being able to fit us all in, despite saying that they could. If I had to do it over again, I would have insisted on adding another stylist.
