I’m an Oct 2012 bride. I’ve enjoyed a year of asking every vendor if they had my date avaliable and hearing “YES!” and “You’re so smart for doing it this far ahead!” Now sadly that comes to an end. I am now in competition with other couples for vendors! My photographer warned it would start to happen next month after the August bridal expo… so I thought I had till the end of July to sure up my last one day exclusive vendors– which is music. We are looking at doing both a DJ and a contra band. They came last because I had to see how much I had left over from everything else to book them. Plus contra bands are pretty affordable and it takes a rare bride to want one… so I wasn’t worried about losing them. And DJs are fairly common and not as important as cake (FI and I have big sweet tooths), so I just wasn’t worried. I got a quote from a DJ I wanted a few months ago. Turns out we will have enough to book him… and he’s already booked 🙁 Part of me is happy because it FINALLY means my wedding is getting close. We have been engaged since 2009 (waited because of money issues). And part of me is a major ebay addict and I hate losing anything to other people. lol.
Have any 2012 brides started hearing vendors say “No” yet?

I started hearing people were booked a few months ago but mine is a little earlier in 2012. I also was just told by a DJ at a bridal show that I was super slacking on booking a DJ this past weekend and that everyone was getting booked already. He just annoyed me though.

This is what I’ve been afraid of! People kept asking why I was already booking things, and I kept saying that I didn’t want to have to settle for something other than my top choice just because it was “too far in advance to book”.
I haven’t had anyone not have availability yet, but I’m finally getting to the point where vendors don’t look at me cross-eyed anymore. Heh. Thankfully we’ve got the vendors we really wanted booked, so I’m not too terribly worried about what we have left to do.

@JaneDomani:I haven’t heard “no” yet, but when I called the florist that I want to book today, she mentioned she couldn’t believe how many 2012 brides have started calling to book. It makes a 2012 bride a little nervous; luckily though, the florist is the last major vendor that I need to book. Church, reception venue, photobooth, dj and photographer are already booked.
Sorry to hear that your first choice DJ was already booked 🙁 Boo!

I ran into this. I didn’t really have a choice but to look about a year in advance (I live out of country), and I started with venues. Very few had any Saturdays left, which was ok with me. I wanted a Friday anyway (all my friends are teachers. So they can come no problem and we can enjoy the discount).
I then hired a wedding planner (who was available for the day, yah!) and I’m going from there. I’m hoping that being on a Friday will give me some leeway with finding vendors available.
