Hello all. I’m a (largely) DIY bride and I’ve been having a roller coaster of a ride getting ready for my wedding. Most of my stress involves vendors, and my recent experience with American Bridal was so upsetting that I thought it would be worthwhile to warn other brides about the possible headache of ordering from them. Perhaps this can also be a place where brides can talk about their headaches with other vendors (I’ve actually been looking all over for bee brides’ review of growersbox.com and fiftyflowers.com).
Anyway, here’s what happened with American Bridal:
On May 1, I ordered monogrammed makeup bags from this vendor via the web.
This is the email I sent on May 18:

This is the email American Bridal sent back to me on June 6 (3 weeks to get a reply!)

I tried tracking my order online, but was told "no information available." No wonder – somehow, they managed to lose my order. The reply above from Customer Service doesn’t even begin to explain how.
I called during this period too, but waited 25 minutes the first time, 40 minutes the second time, and 35 minutes the third time. I tried 3x and never got through to a human being because of "high call volume." With so many brides getting married in June, don’t you think they would have staffed up in order to provide reasonably good customer service to people who have better things to do than wait on the phone to track down something they should have handled right the first time?)
The Bottom Line
Thank goodness I’m working on things like this early! (My wedding is in September ’09.) I can imagine how anxiety-inducing it would be to deal with this kind of nonsense a few weeks before the actual wedding. I’m sure some of you have had good experiences with American Bridal, but I will never order anything from them again. "Losing" orders placed on the internet is a really bad sign. And their flip email reply (in which they suggested just placing a new order – what?!) have convinced me this is not a vendor I’d ever recommend to others.
