Would you hire a vendor who didn’t have a yelp page?
I found a DJ on wedding.com who has a few reviews there, but I’m not sure how unbiased those reviews are or if they filter out bad ones, plus it’s only 5 reviews.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and any experiences you ‘vehad!

you could also try angie’s list for more reviews?

Yep, my DJ and Photographer didn’t have yelp reviews.. actually my venue didn’t either I don’t think. And everything turned out great!

I’m not sure, to be honest.
My first photographer doesn’t have Yelp reviews or even a lot of theknot-type reviews but a TON of FB fans and blog coverage (e.g. SMP, LBB). I had high hopes of what she could accomplish and my e-session fell flat. Everyone I showed them to couldn’t believe that her online images and ours were done by the same person. Even here on WB, there are a handful of people that love her work, supposedly.
On the other hand, our second photographer doesn’t have many reviews or even coverage in blogs, but came highly recommended as a referral from other photographers (that we liked but were booked) and had award-winning images on his site. He did an awesome job and everyone that has seen them LOVE the photos (which are very artistic and timeless).
Our DJ had a ton of reviews everywhere and came recommended by the venue. He was awesome.
Our coordinator had no reviews and barely anything on her website or her FB page. She really does this as a side gig and is a FT Stay-At-Home Mom. She was really really good too.
My issue with Angie’s List is that you have to pay to join. I Yelp a lot but I wouldn’t pay to Yelp. I don’t love or hate any place enough that I would want to pay to review it. On Yelp, you can usually tell who is a fake and who is a real customer.

Not a chance. I’m planning a US wedding from South Korea, I can’t make any trips until the wedding, I don’t get to meet any of my vendors or even speak to them on the phone. I have to do everything via email and I rely heavily on online reviews to help me choose… everything.

@lilbluebird: Thank you so much for the detailed reply! It’s good to realize that nothing guarantees you’ll like it yourself just cause others did! (Also, this is what a newbee I am – I had to google SMP and LBB! 🙂
@dreamocracy: Thanks! That’s really reassuring!

I go by weddingwire.com for reviews. If they are not on there then I don’t even contact them.
