Your vent is not stupid at all. I definitely wouldn’t use someone who was unable/unwilling to give a quote via email, especially when, as you said, phonecalls will not work. There are tons of vendors out there and those who want your business will work with you and those who don’t want your business obviously won’t. Have you explained in the emails you send asking for quotes that email is your only communication option due to rules at your workplace? If they still don’t get it, keep looking because there is someone else out there for you who isn’t as difficult to get in touch with.

Sounds like those who don’t commit via email don’t want to commit to prices either.  In the long run, you may have a problem contacting these vendors when you need additional info, so you’re better off just looking for different vendors.  I liked using email for my planning b/c I had a written record (much like I do with opposing counsel).

This is one of my pet peeves about the bridal industry as a whole – I can get almost everything else in a quote over email. I suppose this might just be there way of doing business.

I love e-mail and have talked to several vendors this way. I told them my main reason was because I have a horrible memory and that way I can go back through everything. The florist I talked to tonight actually prefers e-mail. I didn’t ask for prices though. I either checked websites or went to a bridal show.

That sucks :(. I’m the same way at work, I can’t really accept calls but I can check my email without a problem. Which is super hard cause most people want to talk on the phone, but I’m more of a email, sorry you can’t call me person!

You may want to email them saying “Hi vendor, I’m very interested in working with you, however I am unable to accept calls during most parts of the day. I will need you to email or mail me your information. I can provide you with my mailing address, please let me know. Thank you! ~pinkb” or somthing along those lines!

I’ve had to email people that before, I usually just say I can’t accept calls, please email me your information. I also don’t give out my phone number so that the responses must be through emails.

I didn’t see the part where you explained this to the potential vendors. If they won’t listen to you now (when they should be most trying to impress you), how are they going to act/communicate with you in the future? I’d say just ignore the ones that ignore your email requests & find a more suitable vendor 🙂

This is deff not a stupid vent… I totally agree with you! Fiance and I work funky schedules so it’s so much easier to just shoot a quick email that I can sit down and read when I get a chance. Plus, like @reinab505: said, I need to have everything in writing or I’ll totally forget. It’s also nice to save all the emails in case they pull something on you… you have proof of their original quote.

But…..@reinab505: (again haha) a lot of places that I have looked at didn’t list prices on their website… How else are you supposed to know how much their packages cost?!

I agree that if they ignore the fact that you are unable to communicate except through email, they will ignore other vital information along the way. Drop them immediately and look elsewhere.

Please don’t use that vendor that keeps calling you! He may be VERY hard to contact in the future. If they’re already ignoring your emails to just reply to the email just to get a price quote, not worth your time.

I feel your pain! Since I’m planning long distance and have a full time job where I work a TON of hours, I try to do almost everything by e-mail, especially since I can send e-mails out super late at night. I ran into the exact same issues with a couple of DJs… When I was actually able to schedule a time to talk, I found out that they were out of my budget… by a LOT, which was a complete waste of both of our times! So annoying! I wonder if it’s more of a DJ thing.
