@Treejewel19:  So sorry, that area is very expensive.  I think this happens to loads of brides, so I am sure that you are not alone.  🙁  Perhaps you can sell some things after to help?

This happened to me! It’s so disappointing to realize how much everything costs. For me, a lot of things were “just a little” over budget, then a few totally unexpected expenses…and *bam* we went nearly double our budget.

Same thing happened to us. Neither of us have ever been good with firm budgets. We just met with vendors we liked, compared prices, and booked the best for what we could afford. Now that I’m adding it all up…we’re waaaay over what we’d originally “budgeted” But then I start the age old question of “what do you really include in your wedding budget per say” …. 😉

It really does add up quickly.  Like you, my venue has in-house catering and it accounts for about 70% of my total budget.  I knew that going in, so I’m trying to be creative with other things so that we can fit everything in.

I’m a spreadsheet girl at heart, so I look at my budget at least once a week.  Sometimes I tweak it several times a day.  If the total starts creeping up past my ‘red line’, I know that I need to cut something else out or scale back.  I track EVERYTHING – even a $2 ebay button purchase that I will be using in my paper flowers for my sister.

I always thought that part of the job of the wedding planner is to help keep your budget in check!  Maybe they can help you scale back so you (or whomever is footing the bill) doesn’t go broke!

Gah, I understand. The costs just kept creeping up, and we let them! Part of the “problem” is that we can financially afford our new budget — I was just hoping that we would spend much, much less!

This is exactly why we didnt bother with an over all budget.  We did the best we could in every aspect, splurge a little here and there for stuff if we really wanted it.  Basically didnt hold back on anything, but was very reasonable and luckily we just didnt care for anything too extravagant (ie costly).  And then added up the numbers at the end just out of morbid curiosity.
