I hate to be so cut and dry, but this is YOUR wedding (your=his and yours).

Set the date that works for both of you and the ones that love you will do everythings possible to make it.

@Miss Mochaccino:  I don’t know what to tell you, except I went through something similar with my date with my in laws (although they were not nearly as bad as yours…sorry). In my situation, it got better with time. The guest list, the budget, the date- all of these things that are early in planning tend to cause fights between the families. It does get better though

Setting our date was definitely a group decision between both families, so I think you should at least take their preferred dates into consideration.

About the planning getting easier or harder- it certainly isn’t going to get easier if your future in-laws think feel left out of the planning. So at least make them feel like you have considered their dates to keep the peace.

I agree with tranquility, it’s your wedding.  You can be nice and hear everyone’s suggestions, but at the end of the day, if it’s causing tension with you and your Fiance or just stress in general, do what works for you guys.

@Miss Mochaccino:  Yeah things are better but not perfect. The tricky part about wedding planning is that the most stressful, most conflict producing decisions (budget, location, etc) usually take place during the early stages of planning compounding an already stressful situation.

I know how you feel.  My FI’s family act like that sometimes…I remember when he first posted on FB about moving to be with me, (about 200 miles from where they all live) all his aunts and cousins etc all acted like he was moving to the dark side of the moon!  He’s a man of 41, ffs!  To me the most amusingly annoying part was that they aren’t even that close…

To me it’s just too melodramatic, and pathetic.  We are living in the age of the internet, it’s not like when people got married even 50 years ago and families rarely saw each other again.  Some people need to grow up.
