Just had my makeup and hair trails. The makeup artist had great reviews and photos on her website. The hairstylist was her employee. After a few emails back and forth, I started to worry about her professionalism. Everytime I spoke with her, I had to remind her who I was, how many in my party, the date, etc..
So I showed up to the address she gave me. I was expecting it to be a salon, although she never directly told me this. Instead, it was her studio apartment. This would have been fine, had she warned me, but I was pretty shocked. I was literally sitting in a chair in her bedroom.
She was very excentric from the beginning. She barely asked me what I wanted.. she only asked how heavy I like to go on my eye makeup and what color eye liner I wore. I wasn’t even seated in front of a mirrow, so only got to see the progress twice during the application. The lighting was absolutely horrible. All she had was a table lamp. I had to go to her filthy bathroom, which had no hand soap, to see the makeup.
I told myself soon into the appointment that if my makeup was not absolutely perfect, I would not be hiring her. She ignored me several times when I tried to make suggestions and interupted me constantly. She talked about herself incessantly (to me and the hairdresser). the straw that finally broke the camel’s back was when she asked if it was ok if her 23 year old beoyfriend came up to “hang out with us”. She was definitely in her mid-40s. perhaps I shouldn’t critisize the age difference, but having any personal friends come join the fun during my paid time is totally unacceptable!
Anyway, the makeup application ended being mediocre. I like it a lot better while in her apartment, then when I got out in the daylight. My hair was fantastic. Unfortunately, I don’t have the haridressers number, only the makeup artist.
Now I don’t know if I should scramble to find 2 new people, do it myself, or go to a dept store for makeup and a salon for hair. Mind you, they were supposed to do 5 girls’ makeup and 6 girls’ hair at my FI’s home. I will be losing out on a $75 deposit, but that’s not the worst thing in the world.
Also, how do I tell this woman that I won’t be using her? Do I give it to her straight or just make an excuse? Do you think it’s even worth asking if I can still use her hairdresser?
