Finding a venue was the absolute hardest thing we’ve encountered in wedding planning. Budget – no problem. Photographer – done. Guest list – way easy. DJ – check. Wedding party – couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Dress – done and almost under budget. Picking a date – process of elimination. Finding someplace to have the stupid thing – oh mother of all things holy, it was a PAIN!

I’ve totally been there, and I feel your pain. Good luck, and I hope you find something AWESOME really soon!

Have you looked around the NY/NJ boards to see where other people are having theirs? Mrs. Swan had hers at a restaurant and Mrs. Star had her ceremony (at least) in a theatre. Stop worrying about looking for something that says banquet hall and ask some of the local NY/NJ bees for unconvential ideas!

I know we had to look a little further away from our house to get a better deal, the venues near us were just way out of budget!

Agreed! Cookie cutter everything and expensive no matter how bad it looks. I am sick of it all as well, I am so leaning towards a backyard wedding, except I’m scared of rain and then the cost of renting tents and everything makes it difficult. It is a no win situation…

I totally agree with whitesonnet‘s suggestion, especially if you’re planning long-distance. Milk Weddingbee for all it’s worth! There are some *great* resources on this site, and I bet a lot of people in NY/NJ could come up with some nontraditional, not-at-all-cookie-cutter suggestions.
