I have the same budget as you, and had a fairly similar vision for my wedding 🙂

Have you looked at State Parks?  Usually those are cheap to rent, especially if you just want ground space for a tent.  I live in West Virginia, and I know that Monogahelia National Forest runs along the WV-VA border.  Within this forest are a variety of state parks.  You’ll probably have to do some digging though.  I’m a trail runner and I’ve ran at a lot of parks and can tell you that some won’t have a space for a tent, while others will.  If you’d like to look in WV for a venue, I can probably point you in the right direction, but I don’t know if this state is a convenient location for you.  I did a TON of wedding venue research, more for the western side, but some of the eastern as well.

Also search for city parks.  I’m having mine at a city park in Huntington, WV.  The park was built in 1913 so there are a lot of large old trees, the park is in the middle of the historic district (think gorgeous mansions), and there’s a manicured rose garden where we are having the reception. Our ceremony is on the lawn of the park, which is only $110 to rent, and the rose garden is another $375 including the building, tables and chairs, and grounds.  Huntington is on the western side of WV along the Ohio river.  Probably out of the area you’re looking at, but if you’re interested, the park’s name is Ritter.  Even if this location is a no-go for you, there’s still the hope of finding something similar in another town, so keep up the search 🙂
