- Wedding: July 2009
This past weekend I got the awful news from our venue that they are closing. We booked this venue a year ago, and were so excited to get married there since it one of our favorite places (a ski/bike resort). Our wedding date is 4 months from today, and I’m so lost as to where to begin planning again. I can’t say that it is a total surprise, since there have been reports about the resort having financial troubles for many months now. But, through all this, our contacts at the venue told us that they were confident and we had nothing to worry about. And, everyone around here believed that the resort was really "too big to fail" (not that we expected the gov. to bail them out, but nobody wanted to believe that a huge brand-new resort could go under).
We will be visiting potential venues this weekend. But, I’m having a hard time getting my heart back into the planning. (No problem with the heart being excited about the marriage, just the wedding). The options for venues are extremely limited since we have to stay in the same area since out of state guests have already made travel plans. And, since it is a poplular vacation area on the 4th of July, most places are booked… The only vendor we now have is our photographer since the resort included food, bar, most decor/lighting, sound system (IPod wedding) etc.
I’m sure I’m not the only one going through this in this tough economy, and I’ve seen others on the boards. I know that what matters is that me and my fiance will get married and be surrounded by family and friends. But, it just hurts to have to start over planning at this point. We have a 19 month engagement so that we could take our time planning, and now look at where that got us. We only have 4 months!
