My venue contract says the following:
“We recommend that you obtain a one day wedding policy from your insurance company. We have our own insurance policy, however, this does not keep people from holding you or your parents liable if they so choose. This policy is only a recommendation, not a necessity. Although our certified bartenders are trained not to over serve, we have no control over what your guests drink after they leave the bar area.”
My homeowners insurance company does not offer event policies, but my homeowners insurance policy has the following clause: “liability is extended to any part of a premises occasionally rented to me for other than business purposes”.
Do you think my homeowners satisfies what the venue is looking for? Would you seek another policy if you were me? I’ve heard they can be a little expensive – up to $500?
For anyone who has dealt with a similar situation, please share and let me know how you handled it.
