my gosh…how is anyone suppose to have a modest wedding on a budget of 3k when venues alone are upwards of 2k?
it is absolutely astonshing to me what people are willing to pay. what happened to just being able to enjoy the day?
why do i feel like i can’t even afford to look at venues? what makes venues so darn special that they rape you in costs. and they don’t even provide anything-just an address.
grrr…i wish he would just agree to elope!

you just have to get creative with a cheap (or free) venue site…like a public park or someone’s backyard. you should check out Mrs Sand Dollar’s wedding…
they had a lovely day for $4000!

I know; I looked online at what seems like every venue in Austin before we decided to have the wedding near Fort Worth. For some reason, everything in or around Austin was more expensive than in other places.
I don’t know how big your wedding will be, but check out Chapel Dulcinea–it’s free!

Thanks for the responses. It is just daunting..

It can be done! You just may have to look a little further outside of the actual city, some of the suburbs have places that are inclusive of the catering and such for around that cost.

I’m getting married at the Zedler Mill in Luling, TX its about a Hour away from Austin but it only cost $1000 for the entire day use on a saturday and like 500.00 for a day during the week. The place is gorgeous as well hope this helps.
Here is thier website http://www.zedlermill.com/

Question- I just booked Zedler Mill too and when they mailed my contract there was an extra $1000 deposit they didn’t mention. It’s refundable but I was wondering if this really is something I’ll get back….

I’ve never heard of a rental venue that didn’t have a deposit. I know if you belong to a church usually they’ll let you use their facilities for free. Truely the Zedlar mill is priced about half of what similar facilities like it are priced. It’s absolutely beautiful on the banks of the San Marcos River with large trees for shade, green, green grass, great landscaping. We are a florist in Luling and do handle weddings at the Mill. So I might be a little biased.
Regarding the deposit…
The only 2 times since it opened did I ever heard of someone not getting all their deposts back. The first case, the people did not clean it afterwards and there was food and cake smeared all over tables and the floor. Apparently there was some kind of food fight at the wedding. The second case.. we heard that drunk rowdy guys partially ripped off the sink or urinal (not sure which) from the wall in the men’s room. The deposits went for clearning and repairs in those cases. I know since it is a city facility and the rental price is so low, that you are expected to leave it as clean as you found it. I beleive there are people you can hire who will clean it for you. It’s rented almost every weekend so if you want to wed there, you’ll need to book it way in advance especially for the popular summer months.

Have you tried the Wildflower Barn? We ended up choosing something else, but this was a lovely, kind of romantic, Texan, rustic venue that was amazingly affordable and gave you lots of ‘extras’ and time, compared to many other places. I think they wanted $1500 for a Friday wedding, and it included chairs and a list of other things.
