It took us FOREVER to find the right venue…. I was at my wit’s end, and about to give up, and run away screaming, and decide just to elope.

We knew right away we wanted to get married in the mountains, something rustic-ish. I originally wanted lakeside. We visited TONS of venues. I fell in love with one outside out price range, and then we found another one that was way BELOW our price range that was somewhat acceptable but had some iffy aspects to it – it was a huge hotel resort, so cocktail hour would be at a hotel bar… shared with other hotel guests… not sure I wanted strangers at my cocktail hour!

My fiance was no help, he was indifferent and left the choice up to me. I couldn’t decide, so I brought my dad to visit some places with us (I’ve always been a daddy’s girl, and totally value his opinion and input!).  He saw the expensive one, and loved it, but warned me that I’d have to make cuts elsewhere.  He shot down the cheaper one – even though it was cheap, he could tell I didn’t love it, and said I should keep looking.

I was soo upset, I didn’t WANT to keep looking! I just wanted it over with!! So on the way home, I was upset and feeling hopeless, I googled “wedding venue” near our current location. Found a place with a reallyyy ugly terrible website, almost avoided going there just based on how terribly designed the website was (seriously?!!), but my dad said we should just drive by… We did, and it was PERFECT. Like, literally made for us – rustic, in the woods, small and cozy (we only wanted 80-90 guests), and absolutely GORGEOUS. No lake, but the woods was even better than I imagined!!

Sorry for the long story, but my advice is NOT to give up! 🙂 If you can, bring a family member or friend who knows you to get their input. Sometimes I think we get carried away with details or lose sight of the budget or just get frustrated and make irrational decisions. An outside perspective can be helpful!!

If you’re not sure what feel you want, visit a variety – try a ballroom, a rustic location (barn?), maybe a state park, I’ve even seen beautiful weddings at campgrounds! Or small resorts, bed and breakfasts… so many options. I think once you find the “feel” you like, it’ll be easier. 🙂

Good luck!!
