@PurpleRoses:  From reading your post, it sounds to me like you might favor the second venue a little more, but are concerned because of what Future Sister-In-Law said. I say, go with what you want, this is your day!

The second venue also sounds like a better deal all around, especially if you like doing fun extras (which is sounds like you do). That would give you the flexibility to do what you want! Don’t worry about what other people say or might think, go with your gut and I’m sure your big day will end up just as you wanted it! Best of luck!

@PurpleRoses:   We had a choice of two venues, one somewhat ordinary, the other very elegant.  I went with the elegant and am happy I did – because of the beauty of the venue we don’t have to decorate as much and the backdrop for the photos will be fabulous.  Just my thoughts.  🙂

Go with the one that will allow you to do what you want for your wedding vision. We chose a venue that fit our vision and was also affordable. Have you checked your local boards for other recommendations? Golf clubs are very popular where I am as they are often scenic, have large spaces, and are inexpensive. Something you could try looking in to, depending where you are.

I think you should love your venue. You don’t sound sold on either of these. If you can afford a bit of time to keep looking, it sounds like a good idea. Since you don’t have a venue yet, your date isn’t really set in stone, so you have some flexibility.

Cash bars are poor etiquette – it doesn’t matter what the “norm” is where you live; your guests should be properly hosted. If you cant afford a full bar, perhaps you can do just beer and wine.
