I’m trying to plan a May wedding in the Gettysburg, PA area. I’m willing to go up to an hour away- including MD. We do have a rather small budget (~$5000 total… including food and photographer and everything) and not much time to plan, but I’m having a super hard time even just finding locations to look at. Everything near our budget seems to be really rustic (like with a barn or on a farm) and neither of us really likes that style… or really formal and expensive. We want something casual- but not rustic and we can’t find anything. I don’t feel like I’m being picky, but maybe I am?
Part of the problem is the short notice and places already being booked, but its just getting frustrating. I can’t do anything, it seems, without a venue, and I’m finding suitable and available venues to be rather elusive. I would like to have an outdoor ceremony, but we do have an idea to check on for that… but I don’t have high expectations for it being available.
Do any of you bees have any venue leads near Gettysburg? Have any of you planned weddings in the area? Thanks 🙂

No leads to share, but I feel your pain! My Fiance and I have been dealing with similar issues these days. Good luck!

What about a regional park? I’m not from Gettysburg, but where I live in MD there are picnic shelters/covered pavillions with running water and bathrooms available for rent. How many people are you expecting?

We’re expecting from 50-70 people… Right now we’re still trying to figure out how many people from my side of the family in Washington State will be able to make it out.
I’ve thought about parks near by… but the problem with Gettysburg is that all open land nearby is part of the National Military Park, and outside of Gettysburg I’m not really sure whats there and it’s hard to find (particularly since I don’t have a car :S)

The park idea is a good one. Also, have you looked at any gardens? A daytime wedding in a garden would probably come in under budget. If it isn’t very big, you could also look at restaurants. Search under “meeting” instead of “wedding” as well when you use Google.

Try this link…it seems close to Gettysburg and it looks like it’s available for rent to the public.

Try this one too. This one has picnic pavillions too…and there’s a lake nearby.

Good idea monitajb. A garden would be nice, esp in May.
Good luck with the venue search. Let us know how it goes!
