Hey bees! I recently just got engaged, my Fiance and I have been discussing weddings for a while now so it was no surprise it was coming! I have had set in my mind my entire life that I will NEVER ever EVER have an outside wedding…. well my Maid/Matron of Honor suggested us go look at a wine vineyard in north louisiana (where I am from) and where she happened to have her reception 4 years ago. We are planning to set a date for 9/19/15 so it won’t be a summer wedding BUT the ceremony will be outside, uncovered and the reception will be in the big pavilion area outside they have added onto. It is amazingly beautiful, perfect, great price, convenient, and we both love it. It’s very unique to our area, not many places look like this place in my hometown. It just stresses me out about the outside part…. I want this venue and it’s the only placed I’ve looked at (over the last 6 months, because I’ve been researching) that I am like oh yes, THAT’S IT! Any advice, suggestions, help from brides who will have outside weddings? Or who have had outside weddings? Louisiana is in the south so it is hot but it will not be in the summer and it’ll be in the evening so that’s good….. Anyway, advice of any kind is welcomed! Thanks!

What is your weather typically like, and do you have a back-up plan?
I’m from the midwest, so while outdoor weddings are possible, there’s a huge risk to them. The precipitation situation is never constant.

Truly it just varies and that’s what I’m concerned with. We can always have the ceremony in the place of reception but it would be tight. Doable but tight. Usually mid to end of September the rain is slowing down and people have outside fall weddings alot. I’m just paranoid!

Ask the venue what they have done in the past in case of rain Or high heat. Chances are, they have a backup plan and once you hear it, you can decide if you’re comfortable with it or not. If the normal temperature is above 80* or so during the time you’d be getting married! you may want to keep looking.

I’m sure the venue has a backup plan– see what it is. We also got married outside around the same time of year as you will be. The venue had a covered area where we’d do the ceremony in case of rain.

Usually you can rent a tent as a backup
and cancel a few days prior if weather looks ok– you will lose the deposit

Ok thanks you guys! Yeah like I said there’s a covered area, it will be cramped if it rains but it can be done. I was also thinking about the possibility of a tent too.
Where did you guys get married?

upstate new york, so a totally different climate from where you’ll be getting married — but we got lucky with the weather, and I hope you do, too!
