The reception space is a nice room & has an outdoor patio with a fountain. Its a botanical conservatory but this is just a room no plants or anything. We have been informed besides tables decor we cant hang anything on the walls or the ceiling. He suggested weighted balloons. My theme is french/Amelie (as in the movie) & 50’s. How can we make our space special?

tiffany7: What items have you already chosen? Do you have centerpieces? Have you chosen table linens? Placecards? Napkins or napkin holders?
You could use a couple of special chairs for the bride and groom
stack vintage suitcases in the corner or by the entrance
hang umbrellas from a coatrack

I love your ideas!
We will have centerpieces (something floral I guess red/yellow/green a little blue havent quite decided) but I do want artichoke place card holders & these gnomes…
We are also going to have a camera the takes mini polaroid photos so guests can take photos & put in our scrapbook/guest book.
I thought of white rabbit napkin rings like the rabbit in the clouds but didnt want people to think Alice in Wonderland.

I’m really excited for your wedding. The theme is so lovely! What things do you have planned so far in the Amelie / 1950s vein?
A few ideas for props:
-a vintage bicycle with flowers in the basket (or an Amelie style moped if you can find one!)
– replicas of artwork from the film to be displayed on easels around the room
– Potted plants / trees with decorations and lights strung through them
Will you be having a photo booth? If so, Amelie’s Zorro outfit is a must!

We had lots of restrictions as well as our venue was a historical site.
You can get away with not hanging stuff off the walls or ceilings by adding your own freestanding arches/walls/columns. One of my friends slowly but surely made her own floral wall. And another hung pictures off a painted wooden archway.

I REALLY love the idea of displaying the art work from the film on easels. Going to do that for sure & just found this idea that I think will go really well with that.
Also found a really cute green with white dot umbrella at Target I might buy. I know its not red which I havent been able to find but green is a color in the movie so I think it works. I will carry it if it rains. I think this will make sure that it does NOT rain lol. Otherwise I just have a really cute umbrella.
As for the artichoke place card holders… they are a no go. Both Fiance & mom dont think we should assign seats for our small guest list of only 30 people. I was thinking it might not work anyway cuz the tables are small so it would take up alot of room. Since they think assigned seating isnt a good idea there goes my idea for an artichoke table number holder too.
OH well… NEW IDEA. Im going to have an artichoke on each table displaying a different quote from the movie. What do you think? Also I think Im going to do artichoke place card holders that say bride & groom.

What do you guys think of this gnome for decor only on tables & such.
The only reason why Im thinking this one instead of the one that looks more like the movie is because I dont want to go over board with a theme plus & this is the big one… I doubt most people at my wedding will get it & might just see that gnome & think travelocity lol. So dont know… I also like that this gnome says wishes of happiness or you can display your own text. Not sure what Id put though.
Soooooooooo this gnome or other?
