Look for heritage sites that are owned by the city and have low rental rates or volunteers running it. Or some people if they belong to a club can get a banquet room for free or at a reduced cost

@lilek22:  it will not ‘be tacky’ in a state park. (Check my recap titled ‘For Tangled…’) We did self catering. We made the food the day before and refrigerated it overnight, taking it to the park in the morning (packed in ice chests) and started grilling the meats after the ceremony. It was a lot of work but with careful planning you can pull it off. How many people are you expecting? Also get reservations ASAP! You might even consider renting a group campsite since it is a large space and has parking.
