If you’re on a tight budget, I would check out local parks (you may need to apply/pay for for a permit), or look into having the wedding at family member’s home (obviously, assuming they’re willing to host).

If you’re on a medium budget, check out local restaurants! There are some beautiful boutique-style restaurants around my area that only have a food/beverage minimum and don’t charge extra for the venue rental (for example, my favorite place has a $15k minimum which covers the venue, food, and drinks, so its a great deal in the scheme of things). Places like this usually have several private rooms/patios to choose from depending on the number of guests.

ETA: I actually just read that and realized that $15k is a lot, lol! To put it into perspective, I live in a very congested and expensive metropolitan area, where simple weddings easily run upwards of $50k. I never thought I’d see the day where I consider $15k to be cheap, lol!

Seconding public parks, and you should check your city or county’s website for public venues that can be rented out. In my city, they include the old courthouse which has gorgeous stained glass windows, a folk art museum, the garden club’s clubhouse, and the civic center our city outgrew, but is a proper ballroom. All can be rented for under $2000.

Private room at a restaurant, local parks, check with local private schools/colleges as sometimes they have lovely rooms that can be rented inexpensively for parties/events.

Art galleries?  Are there any artist co-op type ones you might be able to rent cheaply?  Small theatre performance spaces?  Civic organizations often have clubhouses that are affordable to rent.

Fellow Toronto bride here and while I appreciate everyone is trying to be helpful telling you to do it in a private park, the City bylaws here will make that annoying, especially if you are wanting to have food and alcohol.

There are however many city properties that you can rent very cheap, although do be aware that you have to be done and out of all of them by 11pm due to noise restrictions. You can expect to pay between 500-1000 for these places for a couple of hours. You can email the city directly about these venues, but they do book up fast so not sure how easy it will be to get one for this summer. Todmorden Mills is beautiful, so is Artscape Wychwood Barn.

Restaurants that can accommodate receptions are definitely a good bet too, Granite Brewery is very reasonable if you want plated or buffet foods as well. You could also do someplace like the Jam Factory, The Glass Factory or Gladstone Hotel which are cool and funky but cheap (as long as you aren’t also needing caterers etc)

There is also a super helpful blog called Bridge on a Budget about cheaper venues in Toronto and what to watch out for.

I hope that helps a little, I know your pain though it is a very expensive place to get married!

I’d look at a restaurant. Hothouse, terroni, la societe, Mildred. Old mill is a good option.

I will second the recommendation for Hot House! reasonable per plate or buffet options and they have different sized party rooms and lots of locations near by for pictures.

Country Heritage Park – not exactly in Toronto, but just off the 401.  I went here for a wedding for a friend who had a super low budget.  She had catered food and it was excellent.
