Hi there SJ brides!
I’m trying to plan my 2013 wedding and wanted to ask for some venue advice. So far I’ve seen the Castle Yacht Club in Delran, and I’m also going to see the Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees on Friday. Since the Ramblewood Country Club is so close to all of the hotels in Mt. Laurel (we’ll have a lot of guests traveling from out of state), I thought about checking them out as well.
Has anyone been to a reception recently at any of these places? I’ve heard pretty good things about Castle and the Mansion, but I can’t find anything on Ramblewood at all – which makes me a little nervous about them.
We’re inviting 130 guests and are aiming for around $100 pp after taxes + service fees.
Any advice on the venues I mentioned and any others in the SJ area is very much appreciated!

@greeney1384: I haven’t heard too much about Castle except from their ads in the wedding magazines, but it seems nice enough. Its on the water so it seems like you’d get some nice pictures.
I went to The Mansion for a tour, it came in 2nd for me though, because I did not like the room layouts – its odd shaped, and half of the room can’t see the dance floor! And I didn’t care for the room decor. But I really loved their ceremony space (if you’re having it there). As far as I know, they will be over $100pp
Not sure on Ramblewood to be honest..
Have you looked at any hotels? I looked at the Wyndham Mt. Laurel and I thought it had a nice set up, and prices started around $87pp before tax and gratuity. I actually have my hotel block there and we’re doing a brunch the next morning.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

@Stammie16: thanks for replying! i did get a package from the Wyndham and also the Westin in Mt. Laurel. My only concern is that since we are most likely having an on-site ceremony, I wasn’t sure if there was an outdoor ceremony option at either of the hotels. I’ll probably use one of them for the room block and would also like to do a farewell brunch. I see your big day is coming up – good luck!!

We looked at the Castle and The Mansion too. The Castle is OK, but its on a marina, so behind the fence (where the cermony is held) are lots of docked boats. We worried about motors revving up and the general noise of people hanging out on their boats (my SIL’s boat is docked there and they do the same thing). For bad weather, they hold the ceremony in the Ballroom, and change it over during coctail hour (which has to be in a pretty small area adjacent). It may have changed now, since we looked at it almost 3 years ago, for a June wedding.
I’ve been to several weddings at the Mansion too. The dance floor is pretty small, and they have the tables way too close together, but the food is decent and the cocktail hours have been very nice.
You really have to visit them and decide what you prefer. The Castle has just one wedding at a time, while the Mansion may have several.

Yeah there is definitely no outdoor ceremony option at the Wyndham, the outdoor space was a big downfall for me there, since its right by a Wawa and the turnpike…nothing really pretty. But the hotels seem to only do 1 wedding at a time as opposed to The Mansion, or Lucien’s which I heard is like a wedding factory…
Not sure if you’d go as far as Egg Harbor, but Renault winery is pretty nice, and depending on what you want, could be in your price range as well. Definitely have options for outdoor weddings! Or maybe Tomasello winery.

I was previously married at the Mansion in Voorhees. I have nothing but positives to say about it. the food was good, the staff was helpful, and the ceremony space was beautiful. We had 200 people and they fit on the dancefloor just fine.

Thanks for your input ladies! We are leaning away from the Mansion only because I think I’d like to stick to a “one wedding at a time” type of place, if I can. We’re going to see The Bradford Estate in Hainesport on Sunday. Actually this will be my second time – the fiance hasn’t seen it yet though. I really like it, so fingers crossed that he’ll feel the same!

@greeney1384: I have a coworker who got married there about 3 years ago – he had nothing negative to say about it, it looks pretty nice!
