Abigail Kirsch does the Lighthouse, right? I’ve heard amazing things about her food and the decor/presentation, etc. that they do. I don’t have any experience with the other two, but I’ve seen some really pretty weddings at the W Hotel.

I am having my wedding at The W Union Square in 125 days from today!  Manhattan Penthouse was in my top 3 choices as well…

I will tell you a little about why I chose The W and my experience thus far…

I chose The W for a few different reasons – one I like the modern decor of the hotel and also the fact that it was in the hotel (easier for guests).  I loved the high ceilings in the Grand Ballroom (for some reason at MP I thought the ceilings were low) – Also I want uplighting and the Ballroom has uplighting built in already and its included so I saved the $1-$2K it would probably have cost in another venue.  I also like the fact that if guests needed a breather or wanted to walk outside real quick it was easy for them to do it as opposed to being high up with no outside access.  I haven’t had my food tasting…but Todd English cuisine I hear is amazing – The president of my company actually had his wedding at The W and he said the food was amazing.  They also gave us a discount on the room rate for guests that was better than I thought it would be.  I am working with Jennifer and she has been great to work with – always gets back to me and if I need to bring a vendor in, she is always ready to set up a time.  Also like the fact that the cake is from Carlo’s Bakery and included…plus a free suite for me to get ready in and for my fiance and I the night of the wedding…probably missing a few things…

Manhattan Penthouse and Chelsea Piers do have great views…I’m missing that but that was one of the things I sacrificed to get everything else I want…I work in advertising and we’ve had alot of functions (including our christmas party) at chelsea piers so i was trying to avoid places i had work events at!

Let us know what you decided – I loved seeing all the places all over the city!

Good Luck!

hey arborgirl, we’re having our wedding at the lighthouse.  we loved the amenities (the rooms to get ready in are very plush, we wanted valet parking for our guests, we liked not worrying about weather but having outdoor space and loved that things are curtained off and that there’s no changing over the spaces) and the food reputation was big for us.  we looked at the union square W as our guests’ hotel not as a venue, but didn’t want quite as modern a feel (lighthouse is modern but almost more warehouse-y and customizable than sleek ballroom IMO).  the food at olive’s is AMAZING though, having eaten dinner there.   feel free to PM me with more Lighthouse questions.

I decided on Manhattan Penthouse due to price and the amazing view… A GREAT view was really important for me… I’m staying the W Union Square for my wedding night.. so i get to have a little of both. Plus I love the church i’m using close by- St Francis Xavier on 16th between 5th and 6th.

I didnt look at the Lighthouse bc it was out of my price range.

Hope this helps!
