- Wedding: June 2013
Ok so Fiance and I are laid back and more of the country type. A ballroom just doesn’t suit our style. We’d really love to get married on a farm with a barn reception. Heres 2 and quite possibly our only options if we want a barn.. We’ve already had 2 venues say our date was already booked so i think we have to book soon! We went to see both these. Fiance is sold but im not sure. The wedding will be in June in NC. Weather is a concern.
1st is The Hayloft: 3250 plus 250 bartendar charge. I wouldnt need to do much decorating. Its got a lot of natural beauty. The barn is Air conditioned. The cons tho are that the stairs are in the middle of the room with the dance floor right next to it. Its kind of wierd layout cus all the tables would be just circling the stairs and the dance floor is right next to the stairs. With kids and drinking adults – could be dangerous. Also the bar was through the door and down the steps – kind of separate. It was gorgeous tho! And the price makes it over budget…
Also the lady was very businessy and straight edged. We just didn’t get a good vibe from her. I asked her about discounts cus it was expensive and she was snappy and rude and then started suggesting other venues.
(its not really that dark- just a bad picture)
2nd is Starlight Meadows.
3200 but after the 500 dollar discount from bridal show its 2700. Bartendar fee is 20 an hour so only like 80 to 100. At or slightly over budget but not by as much.
Its an open barn so no AC and weather and bugs are a concern. Theirs 6ft ceiling fans throughout which should help and it does get cooler at night (maybe too cool) And its not as done up as hayloft so would need to spend more on decorations. Which i will DIY but thats still gonna cost setup time and money. They are putting in retractable clear plastic screens on the open walls which will help if it rains or to keep atleast some bugs out. but the doorways are still open. They also said theyd fog it beforehand for bugs but i attract them like theirs no tomorrow so idk if it will really help.
Also the couple that owns it is just starting out and they are very nice and open to just about anything i want. They have cornhole, a fire pit and it would be a laid back easy going event. Which is good.
Ceremony would be on open field in both. Also Starlight is about 20 minutes closer. just under an hour rather then like 1hr 20 minutes.
Fiance is sold on starlight but i’m not sure. I’m worried about bugs, weather, and cost of decorations.Hayloft is niceee but the lady put a bad taste in my mouth. I’m actually thinking of trying to talk Starlight down further just to cover the few hundred in decorations and I really don’t think its worth that original price. Theres no way i’d pay that.
