So we found the perfect venue!! Only problem is it is 45 minute drive from where everyone lives, and from where out-of-town guests will want to be staying. It is North of San Diego, so anyone familiar with that area knows out of towers won’t want to book entire stat there as yheres not much going on. There’s a hotel 10 minutes from venue that could provide shuttle to and from wedding (ceremony and reception to be held at same place). Is this all going to be too much hassle for our guests? We want to make sure no one is drinking and driving. We also talked about getting a bus from San Diego but who wants to be on a bus for 45 minutes and then “stuck” at a wedding til bus departs??! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello is there anyone out there in weddingbee land that can help?!? Ha

If it were me, I’d be fine with the 45 minutes, especially if a shuttle will get me there and back. Is there any chance you could arrange for the shuttle/bus to come twice, once maybe an hour or two before the end for any early-leavers and then at the end.
However, if your wedding ends late, then I’d also be fine staying there, even if there’s not much around. My venue is a similar distance away from the airport/downtown of the city it’s near. We’re having an evening wedding, so there won’t be a need for guests to go somewhere else after the wedding is over on Saturday night. So we’re encouraging our out-of-towners to spend Friday night/Saturday morning downtown, and then drive up to the venue and spend Saturday night there.

I don’t know if you can require guests to take the shuttle so much as offer it, but maybe other bees have advice in that realm. Being stranded at a wedding might be troublesome for older guests. I like the two rounds’ shuttle idea.
As far as the distance, driving is not terribly far, though I would probably be looking at getting a nearby hotel for the night as a guest (and calling an uber or taxi if need be). Perhaps you can offer the name of a local hotel on your website?

MsLiveOak, they wouldn’t be “required”, it would just be an option in hops that people don’t drink and drive. Thank you both for your feedback! And yes I think we are looking at offering two vans/ busses leaving at staggered times. And the shuttle also to closest hotel. More options of free transportation for guests will hopefully ensure a safe ride flr everyone.
