Being recently engaged, we are now searching (with no luck) for a venue. Ideally, it would be a vineyard or barn with historic features/character in Connecticut or Rhode Island. We hope to host 50-100 guests inside the facility for both the ceremony and reception.
Any ideas are welcome – Please no tents.
Has anyone used this type of facility? Do you have any ‘lessons learned’ that you are willing to share?

Not sure what your budget is, but I have a few suggestions in RI (Most of these websites include cost info.):
- Sakonnet Vineyards, Newport Vineyards, and Greenvale Vineyards all do weddings
- Mt. Hope Farm is a historic property with several locations, including a barn. It’s really gorgeous, but was slightly out of our budget.
- The Meeting House is an old meeting house – also gorgeous, but bordering on too-small for us. Might be the perfect size for you (themeetinghouse.info).
- We’re having our reception at Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farms (www.kinneybungalow.com). I don’t think the pics on the website do it justice, though. It’s essentially a 100-yr old wooden ballroom structure set on a farm. The American Ballet Theatre used to use it as a summer practice space in the early 20thC. It’s beautiful. Not for everyone, though – here are the caveats: There’s no air conditioning, but the old wrap-around windows around the room gave a consistent breeze both times we were there. It might also be too large for you – we think it’s going to be just right for 100-120 ppl, but for 50 it might seem cavernous. The shape of the ballroom is like a big rectangular donut, sort of – we’re using one side of the donut for tables for dinner, and the other side for dancing, and the two sides that connect these areas for misc. tables, photo area, etc. Some people don’t like having their space broken up like this, though. Anyway, I’m thrilled to be having our reception there, and have found the site coordinator to be a lovely person to deal with!
