Do  you have a contract?  That would be the best way to contest things.  If not, I’d bring up the emails between the go-between, but I don’t know how much pull they’ll have.  Perhaps you can talk them down to an in-between price for the additional people?  Otherwise, I’d try to get your deposit back (again).

If you have it in writing saying that you are putting down a deposit for 30 people on x day on y boat and that the deposit was paid to reserve the boat for that purpose, I think it still applies.

But I’m not a lawyer.

Sounds like you had a contract with the third party company, not the actual boat charter. It sucks, but it is what it is. I’d nicely speak with the boat charter to see what can be done.

This is why it’s always better to deal directly with a vendor.

I agree with @kariface:. I think you can try to work out a deal with the actual vendor. I wonder if the third party go between went out of business for something related.

Hmm yeah talk to who you were working with again to see what arrangements they set up with the boat company.  I know our venue has it so if they go out of business they have to either transfer the contract to the new owners (if the place was bought up) or pay the cost for us to have our wedding elsewhere.

I know it would probably get pretty messy if this actually happened but as far as I know they will do the work to make sure we still have our wedding.

PS sorry this has happened to you guys.  I can’t imagine how stressful.

Oh another thing, if your Fiance can get in on making some of those calls that might help.  It’s really F WORD annoying but sometimes I get the runaround and then put my Fiance on the phone and things get squared up right away…for no flippin reason that I can think of other than he’s a man :/<< This is also assuming your Fiance is a man which I have no idea…and apologize if they are not!!!

@lanalnoco:  oh the same thing happens to me here in mexico. inflated prices, not taken seriously etc. so much easier to let fi deal with things

i think, if the agreement was with a 3rd party, that you cant contest it. super annoying though =(
