My cousin is trying to help me find a venue for my wedding next December and we aren’t finding much that’s in my budget range. I live in the LA area and want a place with a loft feel. MUSTS are: Exposed Brick walls, Large Windows or a Garden/Terrace area, and rental cost of less than $3000! My cousin is a DOC in Seattle and had heard of Marvimon from one of her brides. I went to take a look and the cost was… well, it was definitely over our budget! Any ideas? I work at a hotel, so the last place I want is a ballroom so please don’t throw out any as recommendations!

Check Yelp for locations – there are tons and tons of places that can work for a wedding without getting sucked into a racket. I’ve heard really good things about Huron Substation:
If you are specifically looking for exposed brick and large windows, you’ll have to search in the downtown areas – the architecture towards the beach is more 1920’s Mediterranean.
I only had 6 months to plan everything and was on a really small budget. Some of the places that I’d investigate are the art galleries in Culver City – they are all hurting to pay rent and have some great spaces available.
Culver Hotel – tons of brick, nice bar – easy atmosphere – not a lot of decoration necessary.
Also – Brunswick Studio downtown – there’s one really bad review on Yelp – I’d check to see if it’s under new management – things may have changed.
Might I suggest staying away from historic buildings that have lots of rules? Such a pain! 🙁 The Women’s Club in Santa Monica starts around 2k but adds up quickly making Marvimon look like a steal.
Lastly – read reviews on Wedding Wire – you can contact brides directly regarding their experiences with vendors and this will save you a ton of time.

huron substation (I was totally obsessed for awhile)
definitly art galleries
I also looked at lofts in dt la…..
royal t in culver city
We decided to do marvimon on a Sunday, and it’s a little cheaper!

check Box Eight in downtown LA too!

@sfchick: yes it does! That was one of my BIG concerns! July? Dt? hot as you know what!
@stripes we visited box eight too! It was a pretty cool venue, we just ran into a minor (for most people) issue….it’s right across from a strip club…..FI’s very conservative, Southern family would have been a little freaked out I think! But I loved the vibe!

I am shooting a wedding at Huron Sub Station today….and sooo excited about it as looks like an incredible venue!!! Send me a message (or I guess check my blog [Link removed due to self promotion policy]) and I can give you a personal review of the place as well as photos. Or if you are interested email me and I can give you the brides email address and you can ask her about her experience with the venue.

Sorry if this is too late, but you might want to check out the Center for Arts in Eagle Rock. Rental price is reasonable. I think it was once a library.
