I am new to the site, so if this has been discussed elsewhere, I apologize!
Has anyone run into their preferred venue only allowing one menu selection for dinner? We are being told that, aside from a vegetarian or kids selection, we will need to decide on only one main entree.
If anyone has come across this, and found a way around it, I would appreciate any advice you could pass on!

Welcome to the hive! I haven’t run into this. The venues we looked at offered 2 or 3 options. The places that offered 2 gave the option of adding a 3rd option for an additional cost per guest. Is that something they’d be willing to do?

Yes, my caterer did this, but it was a “dual entree.” So everyone got filet mignon and chicken, but they did not get to choose that unless they were a vegetarian. It ended up being no big deal.

Mine only offers one entree besides a vegetarian option. To have a second entree choice it’s $2 extra per person. We may just end up doing a combination plate but if not were serving a chicken entree because not everyone likes steak cooked a certain way and I have been to few weddings where I actually thought it had good flavor.

I chose the one menu option from my caterer to cut back on costs. Most weddings I go to don’t have options anyway. We had chicken and then fish for the non-chicken eaters (only 4 people). It was fine, no one complained. We actually got a lot of compliments on the food. It was hot and delicious and everyone was full. Also it was a lot of food for the price (3 apps per person, the main meal which included salad and dinner roll, chicken and rice and dessert). Plus unlimited fresh fruit juice and we set up a makeshift bar with the alcohol we brought in for guests to enjoy.

Will the venue allow you to use an outside caterer?

we are only doing one menu option because if we offered a second its $4 extra a person just for the choice
