Anyone feel like lending their thoughts on the two venues I am trying to decide between?
Venue A: Banff Park Lodge
Cost to rent room: $700
Cost for the meal: $50/pp
Will fit 114 people
Rooms are right there and cost either $225 for the main lodge or $160 for the sister lodge (on the same property)
No idea where we would have the ceremony (they offer the use of the same banquet room as a back up but it costs an extra 300 – I don’t really understand the extra charge)
Available the August long weekend or the weekend prior (July 26th)
Venue B: Lake Louise Ski Hill
Cost to rent room: $375
Cost for the meal: $40/pp
Will fit 120 people
Hotels are at least 10 mins away ( around $150 a night)
Can have the ceremony here also
Only available the Sunday of the August Long Weekend
What criteria did you guys use to decide?
I like that the Lake Louise one is cheaper, it can all be done here, and it is more of a “lodge” feel than just a banquet room. I like that the Banff Park Lodge is a hotel so guest can drink and then just go to their rooms (no driving), I like it’s closer to home and the airport for travelling guests, and I like it is available on a non long weekend ( I think trying to take photos on the long weekend in the National Park could be a NUTHOUSE with a lot of photo bombers).

@sbruin99: I voted Lake Louise based on price and that it has a lodge feel. Good luck with your planning.

@CatyLady: Ya those are two big factors…. I am worried about the “wedding on a Sunday” part because I am not sure who will marry us then if my Pastor can’t

I met FH in Lake Louise – we used to work at the Chateau! Taking photos on a long weekend is going to be a challenge, for sure. I voted Lake Louise, but you’ll have to figure out transportation (there’s one cab in Lake Louise, and it’s usually pretty busy on weekends) and accomodation can be hard to find if you don’t book well in advance. What about food and beverage – who supplies that, and how much are those costs?
The $300 sounds like the cost associated with flipping the room from ceremony to reception, and means that they can’t use the space for anything else that morning.

Lake Louise is gorgeous… but it gets sooooo busy on long weekends so if it were me, I’d be incredibly pissed off with all the strangers walking around ruining our photos. The Sunday wouldn’t bother me though because the Monday is still a holiday, but the busy factor would probably make me pick Banff instead.
