slomotion : She hand wrote in contract changes on your original contract and then tried to tell you that was your contract? Honestly it sounds like they want you to bail! Obviously since they are inventing new charges ($1000 wtf?) they have upped their business expenses and prices and they feel your event now isn’t worth their time. Completely shady and bad business but it does happen. I wouldn’t even let them keep the $200 but it maybe worth it since legal proceedings will probably cost more in money, time and emotion.
I am glad that another local business could accommodate you and bonus points for money saving!
And high fives to
creativeplannertobee : for going above and beyond for a stranger.

Wow, Bee, wow. I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a crappy story on WB when dealing with a venue. My heart bleeds for you, but I KNOW you’ll find better (this new bar place sounds awesome, with such a supportive staff)!
I hope you have a fabulous wedding and it’s a big fat finger to that lady!

j_jaye : Yup! But don’t worry she so kindly offered to refund our fee for our private in room bar set up that we paid for and were promised since she now wants us to share a bar with three other weddings.
And yes, a million and one thanks to creativeplannertobee! She has been such a help with this!

slomotion : I was hoping you were near my area because I know a couple of venue owners (lol not even same country) but sounds like you may have an even better new place – fingers crossed for you-
and kudos to creativeplannerbee for her creative planning 🙂
I’ll echo what other Bees have said. Go to the media, this woman is not only morally and ethically wrong, what she did (doctoring the contract) is likely illegal. Contact the newspaper or news station and tell them about it, they could run it as a human interest story/ shady business practices & warn others. And you can also praise the great new venue owner who’s being so accommodating

RobbieAndJuliahaha : I agree with this. What happened is appalling.
slomotion : I hope everything works out for you.

How did it go today with the potential new option?

We have a new venue bee’s!!!
I called the other venue and told them to suck it. Okay, those aren’t the words I used because we still have to get our money back tomorrow but the subtext was clear.
The new venue is amazing. It’s bigger than what we had, cheaper and we have the run of the property. The owner is amazing and was so eager to work with us and let us go crazy and do whatever we wanted. I’m so fricking excited!
We will have an indoor bar area that also has seating for about 40. On one side of the indoor area there are large glass bay doors that roll up so it opens onto a covered patio with more tables and seating. Then there are picnic tables scattered through out the outdoor area and seating areas in the trees (forgot pictures of all this). We will set up our ceremony in front of the stage and we will stand on the stage for the ceremony. Then everyone will move to the indoor area and patio for the reception. There is also a food truck on site already that will be open so if people want some thing extra or different than what we are catering they are welcome to order from the food truck. Fiance is excited because it’s next door to an In-N-Out burger. They are even open to closing off the main indoor area before the wedding so I can use that as my dressing area and said they would get stuff to stock the bar with mimosas for all the bridesmaids to have while we get ready. The owner has really gone above and beyond. And the price we are getting this for is insane. Its HALF of what our original venue was so we are getting a bigger better venue for LESS money. Unheard of.
Im now having Vistaprint 3 day ship me new invites so I can resend everyone the new information on the venue.
Okay! Here are pictures of our new place.

slomotion : I’m so glad it worked out for you guys! Venue issues should be the least of your worries a month before the wedding. The new place looks awesome though, congrats!

I’ve been following this thread but haven’t commented until now. I just wanted to let you know I’m so happy that everything worked out, and I’m so impressed with how you handled everything. I’d like to think that I’d be as calm and collected as you were, but I think in reality I’d be calling for a Xanax prescription and a gallon of wine. Your new venue looks phenomenal and I can’t wait to see your pics and hear your recap! Best wishes to you and your Fiance. <3

farmfreshjoy : mrstea83 : scissorgirl : Thank you so much bees! Crisis has been adverted!
I’ll be honest, I was getting nervous when I called thirty venues and only two had our date open.
Im glad everything seems to have worked out. Signing our new contract tomorrow!
