I went to another venue today which I love. It’s a family owned location and it fits our budget, the place is beautiful and doesn’t need much done because the room itself is beautiful. All it would need would be centerpieces for the tables which is fine. The food was delicious which we tried while we were there on our appointment.
Now, the manager mentioned that if we decided to do an outdoor ceremony and hold our cocktail hour outside with a sit down dinner in the ballroom the price would be lower because they don’t need to set up the cocktail room and they may actually rent out that room for another party. My only thought is that if the weather works in our favor, great, no problem. When I asked her what would happen if the weather didn’t work out for us on our day, she answered, what they would have to do is have the ceremony in the ballroom, have our guests wait in the lobby while they set up the ballroom for cocktail/sit down dinner. So, the cocktail hour and ceremony would be held together. I’m not sure if I would like to do this if it started raining. Do you think this is tacky? If you were a guest what would you think about it? As I mentioned before, if the weather is beautiful we won’t have to worry about anything but it just makes me a little nervous if a rainstorm came down and we had to go the other route. I wouldn’t want anyone disappointed. All opinions will be helpful.
Thanks again for taking the time out to reply. 🙂

sounds okay to me! actually, one really amazing wedding that I went to, outdoor, the ‘reception’ was like thirty feet away from the ceremony, so at the end we all picked up our chairs and moved them across the lawn. It was very low key, but nice.
What are the chances it’ll rain? Have you looked up how many days of September usually gets in your city? Weather.com would probably have that info – just annual rain fall, or annual days of rain, etc. If it’s not too many, I’d say it sounds like a safe enough bet – go ahead and book it!
the alternative may not be your first choice, but if you love love love the first choice, then the alternative is just that – an alternative.

i would personally do them in seperate locations if it was in the budget, and forgo the outdoor option. really though- would you or the groom be disappointed? if not, go for it! it’s your day so whichever you choose will be great!
for my situation, i would have been really disapointed with the original rain backup, so we opted to rent the optional tent at our facility. the more expensive option of course, but you have to go with your gut! we just can’t control the rain…

Thanks for the replies.
I doubt it will rain but I guess that’s just me getting all worried and nervous lol They did tell me we could get a tent as well in case it did rain. They would charge a fee for that but I’m not sure how much. I guess I should have asked! I will definitely ask when I speak to her. I’m also going to check out the website to see about the rain.
