This is my first post. I am recently engaged and have started my research for local venues. Looking for an affordable venue (we are planning a cost efficient wedding) for 2011. We currently live abroad, but would like to wed in New England, where my roots are. We are looking for something with the following:
– Not cookie cutter
– Provides as many services as possible like linens, chairs, etc. We would like to avoid additional rental/food service fees
– Can accommodate around 100 guests and dancing
– Doesn’t have an early curfew (will allow the party to go beyond 11pm)
– Has guest rooms or accommodations that are within walking distance or a short ride
– Within a 2 hour drive from Logan (so New Husband, VT, etc. would be considered)
Planning this wedding from afar is a challenge, so any advice on these venues would be wonderful! Thanks bees!

Omgosh Spinelli’s Banquet in Danvers will be perfect for you! Check out their website Spinellis.com. We are paying around $70 a head for family style split dinner, there is a terrace right off the room and a cazebo outside for pics, and its on a lake! The view from the terrace is beautiful! Its about 20 mins from Logan and there are plenty of hotels around the area, actually there’s a Holiday Inn right across the street!
Its a very classy place for a good reasonable price!

I highly recommend The Commons in Topsfield. The owners and all the staff are sweet as pie, and the prices are amazing! We’re going with a prime rib and chicken dish that’s about $48/head. It’s also BYOB, since Topsfield is a dry town, so you can save tons on liquor costs. The building was built in the mid-1800s as the town’s meeting house, so it has a ton of character. All of the linens, silverware, glassware, plates, chairs, tables, etc. are included in the rental fees. We’re having somewhere between 125-135 for dinner and dancing (our DJ will be up on the stage so there’s plenty of room to dance!) and the rental time can go up until 11:30. There are lots of hotels along 95 and Route 1, a short drive away. Topsfield’s about 35-40 minutes from Boston, and the North Shore is quintessential New England. We’re getting married there in October, right at the peak of foliage season.
Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or want any additonal details. I have it all budgeted out and can give you phone numbers (for me and/or the venue) if you’d like! One of the really nice things is that they set you up with a coordinator so you don’t have to set up your own centerpieces and whatnot the day of your wedding!
