- Wedding: September 2013
I just got engaged last week and can’t seem to find the “right” venue through all my Google searches. My parents set a reasonable budget of $20k for both the venue & catering combined (I’m just grateful they’re contributing at all, let alone that much!). (We can afford to spend more on other things, e.g. photographer and dress and all that)
My fiance and I would really like to have a vegetarian wedding, probably catered by one of many vegetarian caterers around NYC we know and like, but we might be willing to settle for a venue with an exclusive caterer if we know they have a history of really great vegetarian food. (Can they cook me some delicious seitan?!)
For venue, we’d love an outdoor space for the ceremony and it needs to fit our party of about 175 people, but other than that we’re not very picky. We’re willing to travel ~1 hour, maybe more, outside of the city, but we’d prefer to be in New York, a state with marriage equality (i.e. not New Jersey).
It seems like it shouldn’t be this hard to find a place that will rent us some space for <$10k!!
We love the Queens Botanical Gardens, but it seems like they don’t have a high enough capacity for us. A number of other pretty/cool venues (parks, aquariums, etc.) seem nice, but force you to use their generic-sounding wedding caterer or are outside of our budget. Any suggestions from those of you who have been at this for longer than I have?
