@Ms. Kangaroo:  For 250 people most places in the locations you described won’t be “budget friendly.” In the Sonoma and Napa Valley groups of 125 or more typically add extra expenses of thousands of dollars IF they can accommodate larger groups.

If you are looking to save a bit of money I might suggest heading towards Sacramento as the venues are much more affordable. We got married at the Grand Island Mansion and it can fit up to 500 people easily (we had 130). You can rent out the entire venue to make it more of a destination feel. http://www.grandislandmansion.com/

Would you mind sharing the venue budget? Does it need to be all inclusive? That might help us to provide better suggestions.

My friend got married at the Pulgas Water Temple last May and her wedding was INCREDIBLE! There was definitely plenty of room for 250 people, and I think she paid around $1500 for the venue? Don’t quote me on that, though.
here’s the link for the website

Asilomar in Pacific Grove I believe only holds up to around 200 in their largest room, but maybe worth looking at for the wedding.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Monterey Plaza Hotel has a lovely view.

Dream Inn Santa Cruz

Oceano Hotel in Half Moon Bay I believe holds just barely enough with the ballroom and atrium.

Palm Event Center in Pleasanton.
