My limo company did that to us too, but aparently it was because we made the limo wait an extra half hour whent hey came to pick us up at the end of the night because we were saying our goodbyes. Did you go over on your time with your venue or did you go over on alcohol or food?

Definitely dispute it with your bank. By disputing it, your bank will issue the venue a “chargeback” and the venue will have to provide them with a signed credit slip from this transaction. Since you didn’t authorize it and obviously didn’t sign anything, the bank will have no choice but to reverse the charge. Be prepared though, depending on your financial institution and how quick the venue is to respond to these types of things, it could take up to 45 days for you to see any kind of reversal.

Updates please. 10 months later??? wow thats so crazy.

***UPDATE***: My mother called them and they told her that they were aware that they had some kind of glitch with their computers. I guess that means thats how we were charged? They are supposed to be calling her back. She said she’d call them back if she didn’t hear from them today.
Fingers crossed that we can get our money back quickly!
Should we still contact our bank just in case?

@zippylef: I hope you get it back son! But I want to know why they had your bank info on file?! That seems very sketchy to me.

Call your CU now! They will reverse the charges. They might put a temporary reversal on it at first, but if you didn’t authorize it, there’s no reason why it wouldn’t become a permanent reversal. You don’t have to try to clear it up with the venue first.

You can dispute it through the bank but 9 times out of ten you need to have talked to the other party before contacting the bank! If they are not willing to help, then you can go through the bank!! I am so sorry this is happening!! How irritating.

I think it’s important to call your bank the moment there is anything strange charged. Don’t wait!

@bakerella: I know, right? Weird thing is, it was charged from DH’s OLD card number. He lost his card probably 6 months ago and we had the number turned off.

@zippylef: Yaaaaaaaa I would get your mom to give them what for about that too. That is not good business practice. AND I would give your bank what-for for letting a charge go through on a card that’s been cancelled!!! So many errors in the system!!

Oh, man. That’s kinda scary. Best of luck!

@zippylef ….. wow, how in the world did they charge an old number?!? And yes, totally call your bank! This is nuts! Keep us updated!

I’m not sure if your venue is a hotel, but if so, we kept all credit cards on file indefinitely. All it took was a few clicks to pull up your number. It was great for repeat customers who just wanted to use the card on file. Never had any computer glitches though.
Hope it’s sorted out soon for you!
