I live in a big-ish city and have been able to find rooftop areas, patios, or lovely side rooms in nice places that aren’t your typical wedding venue like museums, well-known historic buildings, etc. They are typically rented for corporate cocktail hour kinds of things because they’re small. but perfect for receptions of 25-45 people! good luck!

What about one of the state parks?  The great plains art museum downtown would be nice.   I’ve also been to a reception at the air museum by the airport in Fargo. Another place to look at would be the Hjemkost(sp?) center. The NDSU alumni center is also a nice space for small groups with a garden in the back.  Are you looking to stay in Fargo?  What about some of the resorts at the lakes in MN or one of the camps?

There aren’t a lot of local resources online for us brides in the Fargo area of North Dakota so I wanted to update this thread with what I’ve found in trying to find a very small reception venue in town.  There are so many great choices!

1. The avalon- has some big ballrooms but also a couple smaller rooms

2. The Hotel Donaldson- has a nice room in the basement as well as the lounge on the roof (for a larger budget)

3. The spirit room – yoga and art gallery downtown, has a couple really nice galleries for hosting

4. The Red Raven- also downtown, coffee shop, artist studios, and co-op living space in a 1910 firehouse.  The old loft is gorgeous with a really reasonable rental fee

5. Ecce Art Gallery- gorgeous and easily accessible space

Hopefully this can help someone in the future! Our guest list is around 20, but many of these places can do at least 60 people or so and are super flexible with bringing in your own food, alcohol, etc.
