Susan-

I also live in South east Pa and it might be hard to find a venue for less then $1000 unless it’s a VFW or Hall.  Most of them have kitchens on site for you to bring in your own catering but when booking venues for birthday parties or bridal showers for friends, these seem to be the cheapest venues.

the media community center and parlor has a nice space and they are under your budget.

or you can try partyspace.com  they have some good info on there!  Smile

How many people are you inviting to your wedding?  If you’re willing to go out in the suburbs, you should check out The Saturday Club in Wayne, PA. The max number of people is 100 for a seated dinner, 120 for buffet. They allow open catering and have very low rates for Sunday weddings and special rates for July & August.

my friend is getting married in west chester at this site- and i dont think they had a list of caterers you had to choose from. i don’t know the rental fee, however- http://www.chestercohistorical.org/rentals.php

you should look into this, as well. again, don’t know the cost- but maybe you’ll get lucky- http://www.paradisefarmcamps.org/Retreats.html http://www.shearoggio.com/blog/2010/10/04/a-paradise-farm-camps-wedding-downingtown-pa-10-02-10/
