You should have your fiance communicate with his mother.  If she wants you to have flowers, then she can pay for them.

For me, his family is paying for the rehearsal dinner.  I had to completely let go of the rehearsal dinnner, and let his mom do whatever she wants.  So if she wants flowers there, she can do flowers there. I can’t really control whether it goes with the rest of the wedding.

I think the approach you’re taking on your Future Mother-In-Law is probably the best. If she’s usually reasonable, then just distance her from the planning and let her be surprised. “That’s a good idea; we’ll see if it works in the budget” is also a good answer, whether you mean it or not. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good luck!

I am also getting married in Pittsburgh in October – less than 2 months away, really. (!) Where in the city have you been looking? I have a ton of recommendations I can give you — we did everything we wanted with a fairly (comparitively) small budget and it’s going very nicely. The venue we’re using will house the (short, non-religious) ceremony and the reception and is right on the lake.

Email me if you’d like to know more! Good luck!
