I ordered an ivory chapel-length veil from Vera to go with my beaded ivory gown.
However, now I’m considering changing the order and seeing if I can have a drop veil instead. I didn’t originally want a blusher, but I love the simplicity and sheerness of a drop veil.
I don’t know what I want to do for the reception though. I will remove the veil after the ceremony, but I’m undecided about what to wear in my hair for the reception.
My gown is in the hands of FedEx. 😮
@shoegal_622: Just googled that veil. Stunning!!!
I’m wearing an ivory fingertip veil from VW. 🙂
I would love a firsthand account of a first fitting experience at the VW alterations department if anyone has been through it. I’m working with a stylist named Liz.
Any thoughts on that, ladies? Anyone going with fingertip vs floor length because of the back? I wasn’t a huge fan of the “Gotham” bride’s blusher/floor length combo, and I’m madly in love with the ethereal effect the drop veil gives…just not sure the blusher/floor length look won’t take away from the drama of the gown
Garblmessing?! Really, girl? I’m a ditz :-p
I had the same argument regarding the chapel vs fingertip length with myself in my own head, haha.
In the end, I opted for the chapel length because:
1. I love the drama of a long veil
2. I love the effect of a sheer veil lightly floating on top of the rosettes of the train
3. My ceremony venue calls for some drama in the veil – my aisle is a clear platform on top of an infinity pool at a cliff top – so I wanted the veil to be long and pretty dramatic
4. I’m only wearing the veil for the ceremony and first look photos. I’m taking it off afterwards, so I figured the dress will be on show at pre-dinner cocktails and the reception anyway!
The other veil I really love is a poufy bubble veil, but I think the tulle at the bottom of our gown calls for something a little more streamline in the veil.
@Vera girl – considering your ceremony having the chapel lenth veil sounds amazing! It will be ver dramatic!!
I’m on the hunt for a sash, I would like it to be vintage with crystals. Any thoughts?? Also a friend of mine told me she had a bra built into her dress. Is anyone doing this???
@cupcake728: Hi cupcake, dcsparkle originally posted the link to this wedding here it is
I bought the sash she wore it retails for around $700 its beautiful I could get more photos of this but its in my moms house and won’t be home until next week.
I’m wearing the ivory fingertip length with mine.
@ techie: can’t wait to hear about your fittings since i’ll be doing the same a few months after you.
Hi girls…. Today I’m writing to vent…
I told you all before I’m not from the US, and am going to nyc for rush fttings.. I knew all along there would be extra fees, but yesterday I got some unnexpected news.
I have been exchanging emails with VW’s alterations girl for a while, trying to work on my fittings schedule. I told her basically that my dates, specially the return, were depending on the dress schedule, that the shorter the better.
After a couple of emails, I told her I would be able to fly to ny on a Thursday night, leaving Fri morning for my 1st fitting. She replied, saying it would work great, and that I would be able to pick up my dress on the next Thu morning, just as I requested, making this a 7-day trip to ny.
At the end of the email, she added: because they would have to do this in less than the regular 5-day rush order, there would be a $1,200 fee added to my base alterations. (!!!)
Meaning: 1,200+550 (base alterations) + 600 (rush fee)
I wrote her back to confirm this, but I really dissapointed. First, I think maybe she should have mentioned this before, it’s cheaper to prolong my trip for a day than to get the dress earlier. And second, am I crazy, or does $1,200 for ONE day seem a little steep??
Anyway, I’m waiting for her reply… Let me know your thoughts…
@ivyy: Hi Ivyy~
I ordered a Gemma replica from ebay and I just got photos yesterday. It was $170 including shipping!!! I think I got a heck of a deal and while it’s not exact—it’s close enough for me. I am removing the sash she put on there and I am ordering a sparkely belt from Etsy. Also–I’m having her make a slightly sweetheart neckline instead of the straight across it currently is. I posted pictures she sent of my finished dress in another forum here so I will send you photos. 🙂 It was made it china—the seller’s name is Vivian. Sometimes her english wasn’t great, but she was a very responsive seller with 100% positive feedback. I can give you her email address if you want. But for less than $200 I’m very happy. 🙂
