Versa is better than the mystic. BUT St. Tropez tanning mousse trumps it all. You HAVE to buy the mitt for applying it and I cannot tell you enough how amazing it is. It goes on SO easy, no streaking, no weird spots, and it is the prettiest natural brown color EVER and I am super pale. Buying a whole bottle and the mitt would be cheaper than 2 spray tans. You can get it at Sephora.

I’ve done both. I never really had any complaints with Mystic Tan; I’ve used it a fair number of times over the years for special events and such.

However, I was back in my hometown where I grew up for Christmas/New Year’s, and wanted to get a tan for NYE, since I was planning on wearing a party dress that shows a lot of skin. The tanning salon there had recently switched exclusively to Versa Spa, so that was my only option.

But I was very pleased with the results. I felt I got more thorough and more even coverage than I typically do with Mystic Tan. (Mystic just does a couple “all over” sprays, while Versa Spa targets different regions more individually.) As far as color is concerned, I know some friends that have complained about looking too orange after Mystic Tan, and having to wait for it to fade for a day or two before it looks more natural. I’m olive-skinned, so I don’t really have this problem to an obvious degree, but I did notice that the Versa Spa color definitely had less orangey undertones. I thought it was very natural-looking.

My boyfriend’s sister also got Versa Spa for NYE, and it looked good on her, too! (And she’s one of those people that has to be careful about the orange problem; she didn’t look orange at all!)

So basically, there’s nothing terrible about either one, but if given the choice, I think I’d recommend Versa Spa. Hope this helps!

I’ve only done Mystic but I was happy with the results. I can’t contribute to the comparison but I can tell you there was a typo on the poll – you don’t have an option for only tried Mystic and didn’t like it.

Oh and one more thing, I swear you’d think I work for St. Tropez or something lol, but the St. Tropez has a VERY minimal smell where the mystic and versa have a very strong smell that can linger.  I have literally tried almost every kind of self tanner there is so I’m trying to save you the pain LOL

I voted for mysitc because it gave me a much more natural looking tan vs mystic…however…I had a very strange reaction to it and it made me itch BAD….like I wanted to rip my skin off it was so bad…it was REALLY weird because that had never happened with mystic or any other self tanner I had used. It sucks because I loved how it looked! I have been using fake bake tanning spray, that you also spray on a mitt and rub all over and its GREAT too and doesn’t have a strong smell, and I actually like how it smells. its super easy, absorbs into your skin almost immediately, has a slight bronze tint so you can see where you have applied it and it is seriously nearly impossible to mess up. I have gotten probably 15-20 tans out of it and I still have some left. its lasts forever!

Apparently the mystic is carrot-based (hence more orangey), and the versa is beet-based. I would definitely recommend the versa spa, but everyone’s skin type and tone is different. You should probably try them both and make a decision after you see how each looks on you.

One thing to consider is the fake tan smell. I didn’t notice the smell as much with the versa, but it was still there the first couple days. My fiance hates it and made me promise not to get spray tanned for the wedding/honeymoon. I’ve smelled it on myself and on others and it can be a little off-putting for some people.
