Looking for a little advice here. Last cycle I had a very early miscarriage, or chemical pregnancy. My period was expected for July 20, 2015, I tested positive for pregnancy on the 20th (fairly faint line, but definitely positive), but started heavily bleeding on July 23, 2015 and was confirmed to have had a miscarriage by the 25th (I stopped bleeding by the 26th).
I used a period tracker app on my phone dating my last period to start/end on the dates i started and stopped bleeding with the miscarriage. My next period was calculated to start August 20, 2015 (28 day cycle). I decided to test for pregnancy on August 14, 2016 because I was feeling symptoms, and to my surprise it was a very quick and dark positive line (darker than all my tests from my last “chemical” pregnancy). I also tested on August 16th and my line was darker than the control line and very immediate (5 days before expected period).
So although I’m obviously thrilled (and VERY nervous), I am also wondering if this early of a positive is normal or what it exactly means? Was my cycle just off/different due to the miscarriage? I’m taking baby steps with everything because I don’t want to get too excited. I have not been to the dr. for confirmation because I figure they like to wait until 7-8 weeks, correct? I’ve read some things online about possible multiples with an early positive. I am a twin myself (not confirmed whether me and my sister are identical or fraternal). Symptoms have been occasional sickness-feeling, tiredness, dizziness, mild headaches, and very very tender breasts.
Advice please! Should I go to the dr to see where my dates are or wait it out a little longer? This is all new to me and only my husband knows I’m pregnant, so I hope you ladies can help me out!!

Congrats! That to me means your hormones are off the charts (thus meaning no chemical pregnancy).
Go to the Dr to get a blood test and confirm.

Congratulations!! I’m not really sure but I would try to get in to the doctors and get a dating scan. Just explain to them how your cycle was off due to your previous chemical.
FWIW, my BFP was suuuuper dark too and when I had my betas drawn, my HCG was way higher than the high end of normal for 5 weeks. I thought I was having multiples too! But My doctor never changed my due date though even though I’m convinced I’m at least a week ahead of what my LMP says. Even the dating scan can be off by +/- 5 days but it’ll measure you pretty close to where you are.
Good luck 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to make an appointment with the doctor just to get levels drawn because it just seems so crazy that it could be that dark. It seems like i’m feeling more symptoms than typical and I feel like I’m ahead of what most of the pregnancy apps say at 4.5 weeks. It could be totally normal, but I am SO very nervous. Hoping for a happy/healthy 9 weeks this time!

How was your MC confirmed back in July? Ultrasound? Did you ever have a BFN or negative beta? When did you BD during your last cycle? There’s no accurate way to answer your questions unless you have an ultrasound. You could always try the Clearblue digi with weeks estimator. My guesses
1. The line is dark because you’re actually 9ish weeks pregnant and didn’t actually miscarry last month.
2. It’s residual HCG left over from the MC (it can take a long time to get out of your system for some people).
3. It’s a new pregnancy.

These are all things I have considered too! The way the MC was confirmed was through blood draw showing my HCG was at an “8” which the doctor said was considered to be in the “not pregnant” zone. The doctor felt that it wasn’t necessary to get a follow up blood draw the next day because my levels would likely just show decreased numbers. I have been considering that there is the chance that all of that was wrong, but again all of this is so new that I have no idea either. I did however take a pregnancy test in the middle of my miscarage and it was negative. After the negative I stopped testing and focused on trying again. So I’d say I got like 4 positive tests (faint lines) and then 1 negative test with that chemical pregnancy. We started trying right away (BD at least 4-5 times a week from the very end of the miscarriage to the first positive pregnancy test).
I thought about getting the clearblue test but if this is a new pregnancy I would be at approximately 4 weeks and 3 days right now. The clearblue only say: 1-2, 2-3, and 3+ so I wouldn’t really know then either.
So confused, and although I am blessed that I am indeed pregnant I just want to know dates because it seems like I am way ahead of schedule and that the lines were just too dark for that early of a test.
Thanks for your advice, truly appreciated!

All of this, exactly. I would get in for an hcg test asap. I hope everything turns out for the best!!

Regarding the Clearblue digital, when I took one after my BFP, it said it was 3+ weeks since ovulation when it should have only been 1-2 weeks. So maybe you are just producing high HCG like I did, or you are in fact further along. Honestly the only way to know is to get into the doctors. So exciting though! 🙂

Well.. if you count July 23rd — the day you started bleeding — as CD 1, and if you were one of the lucky ones that goes right back into a typical cycle ovulating on or around CD 14. That would mean you O’d around August 5-6th. The first test you took would have been 8-9 dpo when it’s totally possible to get a positive. If you’re an early ovulator, that could explain the darker test. Keep us posted.

I had a really dark line when I took a home pregnancy test, turns out I was pregnant with twins and my HCG was really high.

Congratulations! That is fantastic news!

So excited for you!! Congratulations, keep us updated!

I got a super early bfp as well, with my son! It was 8 dpo and just a shadow of a line, but if you O’d early this cycle, it’s very likely that you’d have a strong bfp by now! FWIW, I had really high hcg levels as well, and there was just one in there haha.
