I had my hair and makeup trial today, and it was a complete disaster. I am feeling so discouraged now, and feel like I am doomed to look hideous on my wedding day. I would post photos of the hair/makeup, but I’m honestly too embarrassed – they’re THAT bad. I can’t say that the stylist wasn’t good, I just don’t think she and I have the same vision for my look. Now I’ve tried calling four other professional stylists tonight, and they’re all already booked for my wedding day.
I am so sad tonight.

@ForeverBlessed: I’m sorry you weren’t amazed with your trials! Don’t give up! You will be beautiful on your day!

🙁 I’m sorry. Did you correct her as you saw it wasn’t going well, or were you too shy/afraid to do that? I’ve had that problem with hair stylists before, where Im cringing on the inside, but I just can’t bring myself to speak up… If you DIDNT say anything, maybe its worth talking to her again and seeing if you guys can get on the same page? If you DID, and she just wasnt listening to you or “getting it”, call some friends and ask them if they know someone – its always a good confidence booster to know someone you know already likes/trusts a stylist.

@mandypop: She was actually a big city stylist, and I live in the suburbs. She travelled to my house this morning, and did my trial. She did the trial in our living room, and wouldn’t allow me to see it until she was completely done! So I had NO idea what to expect.
After she finally let me see, I was just petrified. She did airbrush makeup, and she honestly put so much makeup on me that I didn’t even recognize myself. She was an italian girl – dark skin, black hair, dark brown eyes. I am pale as can be, with red hair and blue eyes. I am wondering if she just isn’t familiar with my fair complexion? But she is a big city stylist, you’d think she was familiar with everything! I always wear light eye shadows, because of my complexion.. but she put DARK purple and DARK gray on me. I looked like the walking dead. Even my sister said that it looked like I hadn’t slept in days!
I also told her that I didn’t like the first hair style after she revealed it to me, then she changed it.. I liked the second style a little more, but really wasn’t completely in love.
At that point, I felt like I was just convincing myself to like the look.

@ForeverBlessed: Ackk. I had a similar experience when I was with a group of girls who insisted we all go to the Mac counter before going out for the night. I love drag queens. But I don’t like when I think my face looks like one. On the right girl or the right skin, that kind of makeup looks great… but if the stylist is a pro, she should be able to recognize when a certain type of makeup doesn’t suit a skin and/or personality type.
If you really can’t find anyone else, maybe ask her to do your makeup using YOUR foundation and just have her do your eye makeup? And give her plenty of inspiration pictures.
I don’t understand the point of the whole “turn and surprise” method when you’re doing a trial! She’s not on “What Not To Wear” for crying out loud!!

@mandypop: NO kidding!! I couldn’t agree more! 🙁 I am wondering if I should schedule another trial with her.. but I feel bad, because she’d have to drive out to my house again.
Although I did pay her $130 today for my trial, which seems fairly high.
