Okay Bees, I’m a long-time lurker and figured y’all could probably help me. I’m currently 13 DPO; Fiance and I are not actively TTC. I can’t be on hormonal BC due to some health issues, so most of the time we use the sponge. We aren’t always super careful, but we understand that I could get KU and are willing to take the chance. Between us we already have 3 daughters, but we do want to have one baby together.
This is my fourth day of extreme nausea (lasting off and on all day), and (TMI warning) I actually vomited last night after we BD. I tested this morning with a Target brand || test (not a +/-), but I didn’t realize it was a blue dye test when I bought it. Within a couple of minutes, a VERY faint second line appeared. I know blue dye tests are “evil” LOL but it was all I had, and after feeling so crummy for so many days I was going crazy and needed to test.
My question is this: should I trust the blue dye test? How likely is it that this very faint positive is an actual positive? Has anyone else ever used the Target brand? I plan to pick up a box of FRER on the way home from work and test again with FMU tomorrow. I haven’t told Fiance yet; he left this morning to go to TX to visit his daughters, and want him to be able to focus on them and enjoy his time with them instead of being distracted with this possible news.

@sarahb83: It’s likely that it is indeed a true positive. However, I have heard that blue dye tests aren’t as accurate as pink dye. I would test again tonight or tomorrow morning to be sure. GL!

I would be running out and grabbing a pink dye test stat! LOL I would also test again tonight (only because I know I wouldn’t be able to hold off until tomorrow morning). Good luck and keep us posted!

I’ve gotten false positives using the equate (walmart) brand blue dye tests. I used two and got very faint, but definitely blue, lines but when I used a FRER on the third day there was no line and AF came the next day. If you’re 13dpo you could probably test tonight with a red dye test. If you can hold your urine for 3/4 hours beforehand and not drink any liquids for 2 hours before that’s generally a pretty good concentration. Good luck either way!

In my personal experience, I had a really really faint blue dye positive right around the same DPO as you. Two days later I had a BFP with a FRER. So I’d test again in a couple of days, but you are probably pregnant! Best of luck.

I’d try with a pink dye test to be sure or a FRER (super reliable).

I’d definitely recommend testing again. I was convinced I was preg. this month (we are not TTC) – extreme nausea, almost puked once, super sore boobs and very crampy. Tested with a Clear Blue (blue dye test) and got a very, very faint positive line. Tested the next day with a FRER and it was definitely negative and my period showed up the next day. Turned out my new BC pill was not agreeing with me + there is a flu bug going around, but I sure was fooled.
Hope you get the answer you want!! 🙂

The really bad blue dye tests are the “+” ones – the two lines are generally though to be more reliable, but pick up a FRER and test with FMU tomorrow. Then you will know for sure. Good luck – I hope you get the answer you are hoping for.

Definitely try the digital early response tests they give you a Yes or No answer rather than having to figure out the lines

Post a pic for us and good luck! most likely its accurate.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I’ll probably just test with a regular FRER in the morning and confirm with a digital if AF doesn’t show up by Tuesday (due Sunday or Monday). Fiance won’t be home until Sunday night, so I’m hoping if I am pregnant, he doesn’t think I’m playing an April Fool’s joke on him!
@Audreysdance: I’m at work & the test is at home. I’ll try to take a pic tonight, but the line was really faint so I don’t know if it will show up in a pic.

Test again with the pink dye. False positives are not very common. I have used that same target brand and got a VERY faint positive and I was in fact pregnant.

Tested with a FRER and a FR digital. Both were negative. I held my pee for 4 hours and haven’t had but a couple of sips of water in the past three hours, so I know it was concentrated. My faint blue line is still there on the Target test, but I couldn’t get a clear pic of it. The nausea combined with my lack of sore boobs (they always get super sore for 5-6 days before AF arrives) still makes me wonder, though. I won’t test again unless I’m late.
